Can Emerson EWR10D4 read DVD-ROM

I am having trouble getting DVDs recorded on my BenQ 1640 to play in my Emerson recorder. Am considering getting +R media and book-typing to DVD-ROM because I cannot get the DVD-Rs or DVD-RWs recorded on the BenQ to play in the Emerson. They play back fine on the BenQ and my DVD-ROM player. Does anyone know if the Emerson can read DVD-ROM? And when I book-type on the BenQ should I use the same 4X media that I use when recording with the Emerson? The Emerson has also refused to record on DVD-R 4X media after previously recording on them with no problem. Tried several recommended brands including Maxell and FujiFilm, both were TY and MIJ, among others. Part of the first batch worked fine and then they quit working. So tried a new batch thinking I got some bad media and they wouldn't work either. The Emerson seems to record and play back fine with 4X DVD-RWs, 1X-2X compatible, as long as they are recorded on the Emerson.

The Emerson should read the DVD-ROM booktyped discs just fine .. DVD-ROM is what it sees when you put a 'store bought' movie in your unit ...
