Hi can anyone help me i bought a pioneer dvr ao5u dvd-r/dvd rw 4x i also have a dvd rom drive in my computer i'm running win xp with 800mhz celeron processor 256 meg ram and a 20 gig hard drive. is there any software that will allow me to make a full backup of a dvd movie to dvd-r/dvd rw ?
Well now that you have spent the big bucks on a combo drive, get DVDXcopy 1.3 and make backups. Works great and it is the only one I know of that works, and almost all automaticly. The backups look and play exactly like the original except you need a home DVD player that will play DVD-R, RW. Mine wont. It is $99. Use DVD RW at first until you know it works for you. You can use DVDx 2.0 to make SVCD's. Get the latest Nero. Or Roxio full version.
i havent had luck with dvdxcopy so the alternative is to start with single layer disks and use dvd decryptor
DXC 1.3.1 works ok for most DVD's but still has trouble making copies of episodic titles like Star Trek and Band of Brothers. Also some disks that don't quite conform to DVD standards. V 1.4 (due out soon?) is supposed to address most of these problems. I like it for most things (15 movies and counting).
Thanks for the help guys! I just made my first copy of Training Day !! I had to install the update for dvd x copy via internet it is called mirror 1.exe. The copy is very clear and excellent audio The only drawback is this will only work on my computer's dvd rom drive and it split the movie on to 2 dvd-r discs.Otherwise i'm satisfied with this great option of making archival copies for my personal use only which is totally legal.Any comments welcome ?
Your backups should also work on your standalone dvd player. I think you have a compatability problem.
Most movies will need to split onto two disks. Most commercial DVD's are dual layer 9 GB disks, whereas your burner burns to a disk capable of holding less that 4.7 GB. Some standalone DVD players will play DVD-R disks, some won't. This link www.vcdhelp.com has a list of player compatablility that you can use to check your player. Good Luck with your burning.
