There's not much more to say other than what's already written in my Subject line. Is it possible to play a European DVD on my North American DELL computer DVD player? I've heard that it is and I've heard that it isn't. Does "Code: FREE" on the DVD mean anything?

    Thanks for your help!

code "FREE" means everything. Each continent has different DVD region codes. US/Canada is code 1, UK/Europe is a different code, as is Asia, and so on. So normally, a regular dvd from Europe wouldn't be able to play, but if it specifies that its region free, then it will play back on any dvd player in the world.

That's awesome news!!! Thanks for answering my post and the information. I knew that different continents had different codes, but I didn't know what ours was. Anyway, thanks again. I can relax now knowing that I can watch the DVD I ordered from Europe.

    Appreciate your help!

Depends. Both the Region code on the player, and the region code on your disc have to match in order for it to play. If you purchased your Dell in the States or Canada, and bought your video from the UK, it might not mesh well. I would check the code on the back of your video's carton when you get it. Should look like a little globe with a number inside it. If they don't match, just make a region free backup of your disc and play the backup. :)

To play any coded dvd on your computer dowload a program called 'DVDRegionFree' and this will fool your rom/s into thinking it can play all disc's.
I use it all the time and it works great.
It also makes written DVD's region free as well....very handy.

There is no longer a free download for the DVDRegionFree software that I know of, you can buy it online or at Best buy. Here is just one of the URLs to go to and see what it costs. As for me I don’t use it

I use Anydvd by slysoft. I found it more user friendly than any other. I costs, but I think it is worth it. There are many here would concur.
