Can i upgrade a Dell Deminsion 4300s to a pentium 3.06 GHZ processor?plz help, if u need more info ill tell.
Yeah you prolly can provided that you mobo supports it..... i would make a guess based on ur current proc but as u havent provided us with it i cant hehe. I did a quick search for your system on dell.com but i couldnt find the Dimenion 4300. To answer your question i would need to know your current mobo. To find that out, download a little toy called CPUz (http://www.cpuid.com/) and it will tell you all u need to know.
Motherboard Manufacturer: Dell Computer Corporation Model: Deminsion 4300s Chipset: intel,i845, Rev. A3 SouthBridge: intel,82801BA (ICH2)

I think this would be the chipset you are using: http://www.intel.com/design/chipsets/845/index.htm and from the looks of it... your mobo will not support the second generation (from the top)3.06 proc In either case, you probably want to stay away from the 3.06 as it is being abandoned.... Intel is moving away from (or already has) the 533Mhz bus (which the 3.06 uses) in favour of the new 800Mhz bus being flagshipped by the Springdale/Canterwood line (i865/i875). I think the most your mobo can do (at least the chipset) is the 2Ghz, 400Mhz bus proc. Lastly whatever you do, make sure that the proc you buy FITS your mobo as there is both a 423 pit and 478 pin version.
