Can not get DVDs to play in home DVD player

I am new to backing up DVDs. I have used DVD shrink and I am able to burn a DVD that works on computer DVD players but not on my home DVD players. I am using Nero for the audio. I am using Sony DVD -R disks. Any ideas?

Are you burning the dvd with Nero (from Shrink)?
What speed are you burning and does your standalone player list DVD-R as acceptable.

 

I have tried buring with both shrink and nero. Neither have worked. I have a progressive scan Marantz DVD player and I am not sure what it can or can not play. I bought it 2 years ago and it was not a cheap one so I assume that it can play R-. I did not see a speed setting in shrink or nero for burning.

What should I try next?

In Shrink, when you click 'Backup' and select Nero, click the 'Burn Settings' tab and set burn speed at 4x.

 

try the 4x for speed & use dvd+r , if that doesn't it could be your dvd player.

 

go to videohelp.com and type in your model number of your player and it will tell you what type of disks and or formats it will or won't play
