I was wondering if it was ok if my internet connection stay on, constantly downloading data for a long time. For example, I'v been downloading different things for about 9 days straight. Plus playing a little online gameplay with my PS2, and I have yet to restart my computer or reset my internet connection. So is it safe? And can or will anything happen if I dont give it a rest?? Thanks!
it's actually better for your machine to leave it on all the time than to constantly turn it on and off. the only exception is if you've made a major change to the software/hardware or are suffering reduced performance...in those cases, sometimes windows just needs a reboot.
Uptime on one of my servers is 886 days 19.35.38 and counting... It's a compaq p2 266. Because of the way it's powered it survived the big surge that took everything out back in the summer.
o ok, i just thought 9 days was to long but i gues not. but thanks for the info u guys. i appreciate it. 886 DAYS?!?!?!?!?! wow man thats a looooong time!!!
Theres a linux site somewhere that lists uptime for servers.. Mine is about 300 ish on the list. Some have done over 2000 days.
the longest i managed was about 400ish days for a Mandrake 8.1 'server', just an old PC really but it was used by our Call Centre as a Production system.
i leave my system on 24/7 only time i turn off is to reboot, and that is only if things start going slow
yeah, mine is turned off most nights, and during most days (as nobody is even in) but its on if its getting used (duh) and if im d/l'n a game or something...
