you might be able to get away without uninstalling it. could disable in msconfig\startup. the online scan does the same without installing onto your hd.
@jadine37, Please get those useful tools that ddp provided. I recommend you run them in safe mode, and turn off your system restore (for XP users) once you have them installed on your system. After running them programs, you can turn back your system restore on. And no... you don't need to uninstall or disable Norton if you're installing AVG (free edition). I have both Norton and AVG and they don't confict one another, at least not yet.
