I am thinking about getting a hacked iphone however I was told taht if you synced your iphone up to itunes it would go back to at&t's services! is this true. so then my question would be how in the world can you use the phone as a ipod if you cannot sync and add music to the phone?

    Not true.

I have a Pwned iPhone, and I use iTunes to sync my music every day.

You just can't firmware update through iTunes (unless part of the unlocking process, as with QuickPwn 2.1).

Thanks for your reply! I am very new to this whole thing so I was wondering if I could pick your brain a little bit more about the iphone and the unlocking thing in order to not use at&t.

I am still trying to get my hands on the new Iphone however with the prices as high as they are it seems impossible!

First off let me ask you these questions:

    1. what unlock program is used so that you can still use your itunes to transfer music to and from the phone?

    2. I was told that if you connect a unlocked iphone to itunes it will go right back to at&t services

    3. How does a person go about getting a sim card from another provider such as verison?

    4. How do these people get there hands on so many iphones and then turn around and sell them? I thought when you purchase an iphone you have to sign up with at&t?

    5. do you know of a way to get a Iphone and work around at&t?

    6. How would a person update there phone since you cannot sync with at&t? I am sure apple updates the software how would a person update an unlocked phone?

if you dont mind I am sure ill have more questions but I guess these would be the basics for now. if there is something that might help please let me know thanks.

    1. I used QuickPwn for windows. Be advised... QuickPwn WILL jailbreak the iPhone 3G. It WILL NOT unlock it (yet).

    2. You were told incorrect information: you can use iTunes all you want to sync, just DO NOT update the firmware using iTunes until the Dev Team comes out with a newer version of QuickPwn or the Pwnage tool to re-jailbreak/re-unlock/re-activate. Trust me.. I sync with iTunes every single day. I buy apps, buy music, download podcasts, and sync them all with my iPhone... daily.

    3. Verizon and Sprint are not compatible with the iPhone. Only AT&T and T-Mobile. The iPhone is a GSM-only device. Verizon and Sprint are CMDA. You can use any SIM card from AT&T and T-Mobile... BUT, if you want to use the full data/browsing capability of the iPhone while away from WiFi, you MUST have a AT&T or T-Mobile account with Unlimited Data. Otherwise, you WILL get charged for every single KB of data downloaded over the air. And it won't be cheap. (For the record, AT&T's rate is very reasonable at $30 a month for unlimited data.) However, you can ALSO toggle on/off the EDGE/3G radio using third-party software (like BossPrefs). You will need to Jailbreak your iPhone to do this. It's free. And easy.

    4. 2G iPhones are plentiful on Ebay and Craigslist. They are usually from people upgrading from their 2G iPhones to the newer 3G model. If you want a 3G Model, and don't want to go the Craigslist/Ebay route... the you will have to purchase one from AT&T or the Apple Store (online or Brick and Mortar)

    5. See #4

    6. Use QuickPwn or the Pwnage tool, and follow the directions CAREFULLY. It's not rocket science.

Disclaimer: my wife and I both have 2G iPhones. We bought them both third party. I have firmware-upgraded and unlocked them each and every time the Dev Team comes out with updates. I have yet to have a SINGLE PROBLEM. The reason we did not buy 3G iPhones is because there isn't an unlock out (yet), and we travel overseas (alot), and still want to be able to use Local prepaid SIM cards while traveling.

Thanks much for replying and answering all my questions.

Regaurding using the 3g with verison I was under the understanding that verison's pda phones had sim cards? So with that said are there any other providers that will work with the iphone? Isnt Nextel a sim card type company?

You had mentioned that the 3g was not able to be unlocked as of yet? I thought it was?

is the whole point of unlocking just to be able to use tmobile or is it to be able to get apps that you couldnt with just buying one from the store?

    1. You understood incorrectly. AT&T and T-Mobile. That's it. Nextel uses Sprint's network. Sprint is CDMA.

    2. You thought wrong. the 3G is NOT yet unlocked. You can try to use the Hardware SIM Adapters, but they are very buggy, very touch-and-go. I have yet to meet someone who can make one work flawlessly.

    3. You are confusing Unlocking with Jailbreaking. Unlocking = Using on T-Mobile. Jailbreaking = Using 3rd party apps not approved by Apple.

Thanks again for your reply, I am learning new things everyday! So if T-mobile is the only other company that you can use with the "old" iphone if I am not mistakes can you use T-mobile with the new iphone yet?

If so how is a person to get there hands on a tmobile sim card to use the iphone as well the cheapest plan that T-mobile has in order to use all of the iphone features?

    Thanks again

No, not in the United States. Going to T-Mobile would require you to unlock the 3G iPhone. The Dev Team hasn't published a 3G iPhone unlock yet. So, by extension, no 3G iPhone on T-Mobile.

So I am to understand you don't have any cellphone contract at all? Otherwise, why would you want to go to T-Mobile and set up a new contract?

Why not just go to AT&T and get the iPhone 3G, get the data plan, and be done with it?

I am guessing you have Sprint/Verizon. In that case, the iPhone won't work for you at all. You will have to get a contract with a GSM provider. Sure, you could go to T-Mbile, get a data-enabled phone, get a data plan, then get a iPhone, jailbreak and unlock it, switch SIM cards, and then have an iPhone on T-Mobile.

But if you're going to move from Sprint/Verizon to a GSM provider, might as well get the 3G iPhone, the contract, and be done with it. Don't worry about unlocking. You could still jailbreak and run non-App store programs. It would come out cheaper for you, and less frustrating for me to keep answering the same questions over and over again.
