    This all started when i bought an ipod. iTunes wont install because it says Quicktime won't. But Quicktime will without iTunes.

    Then today my computer tried to update to Internet Explorer 7 and I got the following error message;

    Setup could not verify the integrity of the files needed for this installation. make sure the cryptographic service is running on this computer." It is running and it's fine.

    When I was in other forums asking for help they all wanted me to try doing things with "cmd" in the run function. When I type cmd in the box and hit enter I get the following message; "cmd is not a valid Win32 application."

    BUT when I type command the command box opens but I get a new error message; "The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'close' to terminate application." Whether I choose close or ignore, it closes.

    BUT when I type cmd.exe it works.

    What in god's name is going on? I have a feeling this is going to be virus related.

    this sounds like a "WTF??!!" kind of issue. It could be a virus, or a disk corruption, or a hundred other things. Try doing a virus scan, a disk integrity test, that kind of thing. If you don't mind, reformat your drive and reinstall windows, start from the top, see if the issue persists.

    If you don't mind, post a HjT log here, someone might be able to help you.

    ok after much stressing it turns out that a worm or something just put some .com files in my system32 folder and i deleted them. I updated the living heck out of my windows all day today and finally IE7 installed just fine.

    iTunes is still giving me the same errors, so I am going to try posting in the ipod forum to figure this out. Thanks so much!
