Hey guys hope someone can help me with this problem. Today i bought a Sony RDR-GX120 DVD recorder (it doesnt have a hard drive) and on the whole i am very pleased with it. However i have 1 issue.... Recently i took back a LG DVD recorder with a hard drive because it wasnt very good but kept some of the recordings i had made with it, i can load all of these, even a small 7 minute DVD into my TMPGenc 3.0 Xpress and TMPGenc DVD author 1.6 with no problems. However any rcording i do on this new Sony DVD recorder nio mattr how long they are will not load into either piece of software. Every time i point it to the directory in 3.0 Xpress it says

'could not retrieve the program information from the specified DVD'

and if i try it in DVD author 1.6 it is just blank in the box that normally shows you the film details such as audio codec etc.

Basically im stuck i have looked at all the files that make up my LG dvd recorded titles and they have the same files as the ones created by the Sony but all the Sony recordings just will not play i have finalised the discs in the player the same as with the LG and im totally stuck, what is this Sony doing to make these DVD's impossible to edit in TMPGenc? Really hope someone can help me out with this otherwise this DVD recorder is going back to the shop i got it from!

And these files are what? Do you have a VIDEO_TS folder with VOBs or do you have .VRO files?

    MysticE,
I think your on the right track, it will be some dodgy file that TMPG won't recognise.

He may have to convert it with something!!

no there is no dodgy file i have a video_ts folder and a video_rm folder that the sony has created. The LG dvd recorder produced only a video_ts folder but as i understand it the video_rm folder means nothing really so basically they both created a video_ts folder and they both have .ifo and .bup files inside so they are exactly the same but the damn sony video_ts folders will just not open as i have said in TMPGenc i have tried several different recordings from the sony

okay i ran that program on the dvd and it created a back up file which i renamed audio_ts and pointed TMPGEnc at it and it just says it cannot open video_ts.ifo i then ran it to replace the original file and when i try to load it i just get the same problem it just doesnt show in TMPGEnc, to be honest this Sony DVD Recorder is a pile of cr*p im just going to return it so BEWARE anyone thinking of buying sony you cant really edit their DVD's!!!! Their recorders really SUCK big time!!!!

Ok lets get some basics, what files can you see in the Video_ts folder?

Really what are you trying to achieve by re-encoding the video stream?

Are you trying to copy the DVD?
