I created a recording on my Sont handycam (w/ a hard drive)It recorded in mpg format automatically. I then imported it to my PC hard drive. I edited out all of the crap I didn't want and saved. When I attempt to burn a DVD using Nero as a video DVD I cannot select the file. I get an error message "incompatible format type". It is looking for .bup, .vob, and .ifo files.
I can burn it as a data file, but then it won't play on a DVD player.

How do I create the needed .bup, .vob, .ifo files from an .mpg file?

Are you using Nero Vision 4 (or Nero Vision Express)?

Make DVD > DVD Video > Add Video Files, then select the .mpg file.

    Attar,
I have tried Nero Express v6 and Nero StartSmart(?) v6 (OEM) to burn the DVD. But like I said, it's looking for .bup, .vod and .ifo files which I don't have. Is there a way to convert the .mpg into those other files?

I must assume then that you don't have Nero Vision 4 Or NeroVision Express.
Use this program to create a DVD compliant folder (it will contain the files you seek).

    http://dl.afterdawn.com/vsoDivxToDVD_setup_v0.5.2b.exe
Import the file(s) (AVI, MPEG, VOB)
Output (standard DVD file format) to a folder on the HDD.
Set 'Aspect' to 4:3 (if you have a regular tv)
Set 'Standard' to NTSC (if you live in North America)

    Attar,
It worked like a charm. Thank you. However, for some reason it duplicated the video file. I recorded a meeting of our Board of Supervisors. The guy that airs it on the local TV channel said that he needed it to play on a DVD playerr. Okay...so thats when I posted this plea for help. Now, instead of burning just one copy of the meeting, it burned two (back-to-back). Your conversion software created 2x .BUP files, 2x .IFO files and 6x .VOB files as listed below:

    VIDEO_TS.BUP
    VIDEO_TS.IFO
    VTS_01_0.BUP
    VTS_01_0.IFO
    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_01_3.VOB
    VTS_01_4.VOB
    VTS_01_5.VOB
    VTS_01_6.VOB

I burned it under the VIDEO_TS Directory. Did I do something wrong? I'm so confused!

when burning onto a disk, do the files need to be in any certain order?

If you were using Nero Express to make a DVD Video, you would just click on (1)"Add", then highlight the (2) VIDEO_TS folder, click (3)"Add" and all the files will be brought in.
Then "Close" the folder. The order is not important.
