I had to reformat my drives due to a problem with my internet.(after which i found out i could have repaired easy with a fresh javascript file)Heres the problem...I copied all my important files and pictures of my father now decesed to a few dvd+r discs (MAXELL 16x speed)I checked them after to make sure the files were there and all was perfect.I made another copy just in case. After a reformat and fresh install of xp sp1 it would not read the disc.I tried nero, updated nero and retried, tried cdr win5.0,isobuster,windows media player 11,installed aspi layer, installed codecs, uninstalled the drive and reinstalled it,latest dx media, windows sp3 and all latest drivers.all to no avail.Windows reports the disc as blank media even though the data is there.Other programs say cannot open disc.Disc was burnt as a data disc single sesson with nero and were fine before reinstall of windows.I need this data badly as some of this cannot be replaced so any help is greatly appreciated. My machine is a amd based 3200xp processor, 400mhz fsb,1 gig ddr 400fsb memory, nforce 2 chipset mb,lite on shm-165p6s cd-dvd rw drive,52x cd rom drive,2 sata 80 gig drives, windows xp sp3 with all updates. What did i miss Help please....
Did you do the disk as a multi session disk put disk in drive open Nero burning rom along the top choose select recorder when selected see what it says about the disk if multi session and not closed should give the option to close it
It was burnt as a single session data disc and was closed.I could read it afterwards but after reformat nothing...Windows reports it as a blank disc,Nero simply says disc cannot be opened.CDRwin5.0 reports it as single session but unknown format.
UPDATE....I checked the dvd disc on my daughters pc and presto the files are there so i copied them through my network to my pc but the problem remains on my pc.Apparently there is a file missing or codec missing.I just dont know so any help with this is welcomed as i dont know what else to check. Thanks in advance.william
Never known of a codec missing needed to open a data DVD? For an avi file yes has your daughters pc got Nero on it if yes like scorpNZ: said you might need incd when you did the disk did you drag and drop the files on to the disk if you did you did it through incd so to open it you need incd installed
Yeah i meant you most probably need InCd,as for codecs, nup it's all in the type of formatted disk as to why it can't be read, you need to reinstall the original software that burn't the disk,i assumed you had InCd installed but figured it was left out this time, all you need is the reader part you don't have to install InCd the software if you don't want too tho it does'nt interfere with any other burning program apart from HP's Drive Letter Access [DRL],which is hp's version of InCd & like InCd if the comp has'nt got it the disk can't be read or at least that's what the theory is
Ok,I did install incd reader but not the application because i just dont like alot of programs running on start up and i dont like the way incd works.Incd reader is installed though.I am not to up on the whole codec thing to be honest.I was just trying self help from what others have tried.I figured it couldnt hurt to have them.(I may be wrong though)To write the dvd i opened start smart and chose the option to write a data dvd.The box opened for that where it shows the bar at the bottom showing how much room is open on the dvd and also shows the files you have added.I did drag the files to this window.Yes my Daughters pc does have Nero installed also.It is the retail version 6 where mine is the OEM version 6.6 ....I will check the incd reader install and maybe reinstall it to be sure and recheck it.I appreciate the help and will post an update after i complete this. Thanks for your time
OK scorpNZ im not up on the codecs.I do have just the reader installed but im going to remove and reinstall just in case.Im using the exact same version of nero that wrote the disc.I did update nero only after it would not read the disc the first time.I did think of one difference allthough i cant see where it would interfere.I was using my 2 SATA hard drives in raid mode and when i reinstalled xp i am not using raid this time. That is the only difference other than i have not installed any of my games as of yet. Thanks to you both for your time and i will update you after i try the reinstall.
Codecs are used exclusively by audio & video files if an installed media player can't read said files it will show a popup "codec rquired to play this file" or wording similar to that effect. Raid got nought to do with it,version of incd makes no diff as all backwards compat,as for OEM,it's exactly the same as so called retail,a simplified way of putting it is, OEM stands for build your own Me personally i would'nt uninstall just incd i'd do the lot, then i'd restart & run ccleaner , once that was done i'd go into the registry & delete any remaining crap & also remove the nero folder from within progfile, then run cc again then reinstall, about this ti8me i'd pray for a miracle tho if it were norton software praying won't help
