Installed complimentary Norton about 6 months ago (I think its Norton 2005) but I decided to switch to a free anti-virus. Cannot find option to uninstall Norton anywhere, tried to delete folders from program files but it still keeps popping up on start ups. How can I get rid of this program?
Maybe a silly question, but did you look here? Start Settings Control Panel Add or Remove Programs Should be an option to remove Norton/Symantec there. If not, repost what you found.
I tried all that but get message that the program is being used by another program and will not uninstall.
Hi. Don't know why its doing that, but you can uninstall stuff with ccleaner. Open it - click on tools...
Hi there. Go to this link at bleepingcomputer.com http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic42247.html or go to bleepingcomputer.com and go to the Security forum. It gives a good detail of how to uninstall Norton. Good luck.
Uninstalling a program such as Norton is more complicated than just going to Add/Uninstall. That's why Norton (Symantec) has it's own uninstall program. Bleeping Computer is great for all of this, go to their tutorial pages and Major Geeks also has some excellent stuff. See link below for site to uninstall Norton. Glad I came across this thread as I have Norton on 30 trial - came with new pc. Ten days to go...please post what worked...
what you will have to do, when you deleated some of the files with out using the uninstaler, you have made a big mess, what you will have to do is reinstall the program and thain uninstal, it, that way you know you will get it all, also one sure fire way to get it done is to wipe the drive, that should be the last thing you should do, also if it keeps coming up in the startup, you can go to the start button and go to startup programs and take it out there, also you could go into regedit and take it out of the startup file in there, but don't go in there if you don't know what you are doing ok?
