What program was the first back-up made on?

I understand that DVDxCopy adds a protection scheme that prevents you from backing up a back up.
In any case, you could try using DVDDecrypter to make and burn an ISO image -> this may solve your problem.

Did Nero show you a message saying that your DVD burner & DVD rom drive are on the same IDE cable and data may be lost in transfer

Try doing a copy from image w/ Nero [uncheck the on-the-fly box]

I agree with that one Herbsman. Also, recording on the fly isnt really recommended with DVD's. Though it may work, it is more at risk of problems when playing back!
