Hello tech-types. I'm trying to back up DVD's with Nero and I'm getting failure upon failure. After looking on other posts on this forum I have downloaded the Dynamic control reg patch thingy from Nero and checked the firmware on my DVD writer. Some progress: It got to 6% instead of only 1% but this is still not too great. Here's the log of the burn: Joe GroovyReg Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: File 'Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=4.60 (1021), size=45056 bytes, created 10/09/1999 13:06:00 ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 26/10/2004 18:35:34 Nero Version: 6.6.0.14 Internal Version: 6, 6, 0, 14d Recorder: <DVDRW IDE1008> Version: 0060 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.14 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI CD-ROM: <DVDRW IDE1008 >Version: 0060 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.14 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : ST380020A atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On DiskPeripheral : SAMSUNG SP0802N atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : DVDRW IDE1008 atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: Off CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8320B atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: On === CDRom-Device-Map === DVDRW IDE1008 D: CDRom0 HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8320B E: CDRom1 ======================= AutoRun : 0 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 83886080 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 1023MB (1048048kB) Free physical memory: 693MB (710592kB) Memory in use : 32 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 30.7.2005 Burn DVD Image 13:26:07 #1 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 127 Reader running 13:26:07 #2 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 122 Writer DVDRW IDE1008 running 13:26:07 #3 IMAGEGEN -10 File ImageGen.cpp, Line 366 Image was written as DAO. hiya, welcome to afterdawn. first of all edit your post quickly (pencil icon at top right of your post), and EDIT OUT your serial number which begins with '1A22'. i am looking thru your logfile now...
@Groovyreg - nice one, see you've edited out the serial number in the meantime. i've had a look thru rest if logfile - - version 0060 of your firmware was up to date here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/193674. However this drive would appear to be inferior - see the link for a load of info/other links re that drive - DMA needs to be ON, fix it like this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm - i don't these discs so won't comment - splat!
Thankyou Creaky. I've updated Nero to the latest versions and am going to run the SMCPatch (should I?). My primary IDE channel is set to Ultra DMA mode 5 but my secondary is set to PIO on device 0 but Multi-word DMA Mode 2 on device 1. Should I uninstall both the primary and secondary IDE's? Is this in any way dangerous? I'll wait for another post from you before I do anything else. Do you need any other system info? When I hear back I'll follow your advice and give it another go but if I have further problems should I continue on this post or start another? I'm sure glad that whoever your employer is leaves you alone long enough to help the whole web with there (many) nero problems!
Problem now solved. Thanks a lot to creaky for valuable assistance. Praise be to all tech-types who monitor the web for us clueless people!
