Hello tech-types. I'm trying to back up DVD's with Nero and I'm getting failure upon failure. After looking on other posts on this forum I have downloaded the Dynamic control reg patch thingy from Nero and checked the firmware on my DVD writer. Some progress: It got to 6% instead of only 1% but this is still not too great.

Here's the log of the burn:

@Groovyreg - nice one, see you've edited out the serial number in the meantime. i've had a look thru rest if logfile -

    - version 0060 of your firmware was up to date here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/193674. However this drive would appear to be inferior - see the link for a load of info/other links re that drive

    - DMA needs to be ON, fix it like this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

    - i don't these discs so won't comment

    - splat!

    Thankyou Creaky.
I've updated Nero to the latest versions and am going to run the SMCPatch (should I?). My primary IDE channel is set to Ultra DMA mode 5 but my secondary is set to PIO on device 0 but Multi-word DMA Mode 2 on device 1. Should I uninstall both the primary and secondary IDE's? Is this in any way dangerous?
I'll wait for another post from you before I do anything else. Do you need any other system info?
When I hear back I'll follow your advice and give it another go but if I have further problems should I continue on this post or start another?

I'm sure glad that whoever your employer is leaves you alone long enough to help the whole web with there (many) nero problems!
