I have a pioneer dvr-106 and i cannot burn RW. DVD-r and DVD+R burn fine, but when it comes to the RW, it can't format the disc. It says it's a Power Calibration Error but i think there might be more to it. The Disc i used is a brand new TDK DVD+RW, so the brand is good. I updated to the latest firmware, latest nero, and still having errors. When i put in the DVD-RW it won't even attempt to burn. Here is the latest error report. Maybe a problem with the laser, but i dont know cause non SVDRW burn fine. CDRW burn fine also. === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : WDC WD800BB-00DKA0 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-106D atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : LITE-ON COMBO LTC-48161H atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: On === CDRom-Device-Map === PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-106D D: CDRom0 LITE-ON COMBO LTC-48161H E: CDRom1 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 74448896 (0) Byte BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 511MB (523756kB) Free physical memory: 252MB (258412kB) Memory in use : 50 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 4.12.2006 Burn DVD Image 2:03:36 PM #1 Text 0 File SCSIPTICommands.cpp, Line 411 LockMCN - completed sucessfully for IOCTL_STORAGE_MCN_CONTROL 2:03:37 PM #2 IMAGEGEN -10 File ImageGen.cpp, Line 366 Image was written as DAO. all this refers to the media used..... and your machine doesn't like the media! TDK (manufacturers ID code of PHILIPS) is crappy media! If you're going to use +RW disks then get Sony! they are much better quaility! and more about your burner: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters.php?DVDnameid=113&Search=Search&list=2#comments it's a little on the old side so if you can buy the 4x media, do so... but the +RW media now is up to 4x and your writer can only do 2.4x on those rewritables. maybe it's time to upgrade your burner.
I stop buying RW disc just bese they never did what they said they would do They did one thing very good -DIE-
I use RW disks all the time! works great..... use an RW disk to back up my Quicken files, and when I am unsure of whether or not I want to keep a DVD backup I use an RW disk first and then see if I want to just copy it to a +/-R if it's worthy or not! RWs are very useful! I have about 15 DVD+RWs and the same for CD-RWs. they come in handy.
I lost a bunch of pictures on RWs I'm still mad about that. at 30 cents a disc I'll stick to a fresh disc
I have a neat little program that can recover deleted or reformated disk files or data! I got this little program when I bought the new SanDisk Extreme IV 2.0GB compact flash for my camera. it's called RescuePro..... http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Item(2192)-n/a-Rescue_Pro_Deluxe_40.aspx this would recover files on those RW disks.
Thank you for your interest in RescuePRO Deluxe, the worlds best performing undelete utility for recovering files off of of all types of removable digital media. To begin your PC demo download click here <http://www.lc-tech.com/productdemo/RescuePRO-Deluxe-DEMO-setup.zip> . I had to give them my name and email address ...... I don't know if this link will work for you but it's worth a try!
