what make & model is your router that you're trying to connect to ?

reset your router.. (the reset button, not turn it off and on)
go to console type, iwlist scan
If your network is there type, iwconfig wlan0 essid "HOSTNAME"
    then type dhcpcd
If you still need a WEP/WPA key then refer to your router... (its on the sticker usually)

to check if your connected type, iwconfig eth0
if you have a mac address and an IP listed there.. Then your on. :)
