A year or to ago I stumbled across a program that piqued my interest. What the program was do was just search for files that were being shared by people in their shared folders. It didn't use a P2P network or anything it just searched the web for "shared folders". Now that I have DSL I would have become very interested in finding and trying this application out again, needless something like that doesn't work very well on dial-up! lol i know this request is kinda out there and may be kind of hard to find but any help would be much appreciated and if you can't find anything I understand, heck I couldn't! lol thanks - PeaInAPod

Thats why I am having trouble finding this program. It wasn't a P2P application "pur-say" (spelled phoeneticall). And its not that I need the program really bad but I thought the idea was cool and thought since I now have a DSL line to use it with I would give it a shot. But yeah I looked all last night and today and couldnt find a single thing.

its a sniffing program thats sniffs through blocks of ip addies and saves all the addies that it was able to gain access to , and then from there it was up to u what u looked for on that specific machine , i bought a program about a year ago , dont remeber the name though ? but shortly after tinkering around with it , i realized that most if not all high speed isp's block or stealth the specific ports needed to gain access to these pc's for dling purposes ,

i bet apps like that are against the law as its kinda like hacking into someones machine and then useing there upload speed to send you files without them knowing there doing that , it basically snoops into someones machine that has a shared folder and then steels any / all files that the hacker wants .

i bet you and i fell for the same peice of software lol , they were advertising it as the worlds first 100% lawsuit safe downloading software because there was no shareing involved , just pure stealing lol , well the damn thing doesnt work anyway , at least for the average user anyway , unless your good at hacking , then i wouldnt waste your time , its easier to get a usenet account and dl with ease , rather then trying to sniff ip addies all day and come up with nuttin because all the ports are stealthed .

tbiggs is completely right. the software searches for ip addys and then once found, then netbios hacks its way into shared folders. if there are any there or they havent been secured, it can copy any/all of the data. its a realy old form of hacking and hardly works these day although i still hear of it now and again.

Yeah I remember something about it downloading "IP Blocks" and then searching those. But yeah probably was the same piece of software. Yeah I found it back before I was "PC Literate" and thought it was pretty cool. But yeah thanks for the info, I probably won't bother looking into it anymore. Like I said I just remembered thinking it was a cool program. But now that I think about it, it does seem be leaning towards the illegal side. Thanks for the help - Pea.
