I have been having problems with my computer lately. I Left my computer on one day sitting on the desktop. when i came back turned the monitor on it said, " Please insert boot disk and press a key". So i was like...Ok what went wrong, i tried to reboot the computer but it just sat at the vista loading sign forever it finally reboot and came up with the same message again. So then i tried to install vista again. And it would sit at expanding files forever until it then came up with an error message. I tried to format with disk wipe and it said something like I/O bad fault or something like that. So then i tried to format using windows and it worked got it installed. Everything was great. Then I brought it over to my dads and started it up, started working then i was on the internet and it said not responding. I couldnt do anything on the desktop or anything so i held the power button down on the computer. Then tried to reboot, and here we go again stuck at the vista loading. Tried to reinstall again worked, and froze again had to hold power button down, and then no boot when i turned back on. Also i was able to boot into safe mode fine a few times, just not normal mode. Then thats where i tried killdisk, it would come up with an error about 2% of the way through saying "Cant write disk...Check the hard disk geometry. But it did erase windows and everything, also i tried a samsung eraser and it succesfully erased the drive(which I understand is different then formating, but why would that work?) Sorry for such a long post, but I'd figured I would explain everything now instead of having you guys ask more questions. But thanks ahead of time! Oh by the way, This hard disk is only about 2 months old from newegg.
more than likely your hard drive is good. I've only encountered Input/output errors once and those where caused by a bad motherboard. Try booting up your computer with a linux livecd, that's what I use to see if my hardware is good.
