hey guys Im new and trying to learn. I have been trying to convert an avi format to .dvd to the dvd player can play it. I am converting using winavi dvd converter and i tried nero to burn and I'm trying imgburn. So far I haven't been able to get a dvd to play. I don't know if there is something Im not doing or if the winavi isnt converting right. Can someone point me in a direction? thanks
Try ConvertXtoDVD. WinAVI is hit-and-miss as is Nero. ConvertXtoDVD can automatically burn to DVD. It's not free but a good solution. A good free program would be AVI2DVD.
I have a couple of questions. When you use this ConvertXtoDVD, does this program remove any copyright protection. Or does it only converts the file type, from AVI to ? If the AVI movie has copy copyright protected, how do your remove this during the process?
it doesnt remove copyprotection i dont think... do you have an avi with it? --------------------------------- Key Features Supported video formats: Convert AVI, Mpeg, Mpeg4, DivX, Xvid, MOV, WMV, WMV HD, DV, MKV, DVD to DVD and more... One of my friends has a copy protected AVI. He called me and asked how to copy it. I have another friend trying to copy a MPEG video with copy right protection stored on his hard drive, 714 MB in size. He wants to put it on a CD or DVD to play in his standalone payer. any idea for that one, as well.
have they tried any convertion software to see what happens? http://www.topvideopro.com/guide/how_to_convert_protected_m4v_m4p_aa_m4b.htm
My friend which has the MPEG Video used the convertxtodvd program and when he put, not sure whether it was a cd or dvd, into his standalone, it said something about either protection or region. I can't remember what he said, guess I should find out, huh? LOL All I know is he said it didn't work. He did say he tried to change the file type from MPEG video to MPEG movie. and the file he was trying to copy was already on his HDD. I don't know what type of movie it is or where he got it. Got me on that stuff. I'm sticking with just backup up my regular movies. Which so far I've hard no problems. Knock on wood!
Another question, why does it show I posted this last statement I justsent to you at 3AM when its 1AM here at my house? I remember when I joined Afterdawn, there was an area which asked which time zone I'm in. I put pacific time, I'm in california.
Funny stuff! LOL Thought I did something wrong when I joined up. It's 1:20AM in california right now, what time there?
supaphly1, Give this a try and let me know if that works or not. It is using all free proggies. http://webpages.charter.net/bacitup/TheGuides/DivXtoDVD.pdf @QuikDraw, You kind of stole this thread, please start another thread with your question next time it's in the AD rules which I am sure you read and it just isn't the polite thing to do. Thanks
bbmayo- thanks i appreciate the advice and telling someone to start their own thread, ut I didn't want to be mean because hey maybe Ill run into a copyright and could use the info. To answer some other questions. I have tried avi2dvd and it always freezes and gives me a floating point division zero error! haha So i don't know what that programs deal is haha. Im using some memorex dvds. I've got avs video converter... does anyone know if that one works well? Also, whats a good mkv converter? thanks everyone
supaphly1, No problem it is your thread and you were the one looking for answers it just kind of got off track there for a bit. Anyway did you look at the guide I provided you a link to and give that a go? It is old, but still works pretty darn good. Basically it is using DivXtoDVD which is the free older version of ConvertXtoDVD. It still works perfectly fine, but it is free AVI2DVD has some mixed reviews around here and I used it some but never was very fond of the results it produced. Your other option you could try is I see you have Nero so you could just use Nero Vision Express here is a guide for that http://webpages.charter.net/bacitup/TheGuides/NVE Basics.pdf Sorry never used AVS Video converter. Edit Oh yeah the Memorsux disk's get rid of them and buy some Verbatim, trust me it will save you some headaches.
hey there bbmayo long time buddy and YES! quite right on thread theft, itas a no no.... and im sorry. avi2dvd has always been 50/50 but i use a very simarlar app called TFM The FilmMachine aslo fre and awesome...
BBmayo- yah I figured but I got the memorex for a deal and a half. I figure if I get say half of them to work it'll be a success. Im not sure what has happened to my avi2dvd as any avi or kmv file freezes the program. I did look at your first guide and I have it saved and plan on trying it out tonight. Rotary- Thanks for all the help. Hopefully Ill get the avi2dvd to work properly. Do either of you know something that can convery the kmv file to dvd? the avi2dvd is supposed to work but again it isnt haha. any suggestions? or does the filmmachine do the kmv convertion?
