Hi guys. Well, my uncle has a Toshiba Satellite laptop, can't remember its model right now, but it is huge and looks like chromed with black stripes. The thing is that the machine came with a pre-installed Office 2007 copy which had a 30-day free trial. The trial got over, so my uncle bought a Office 2007 disc and asked me to install it. So I put the disc and tried to install it but a message appeared at the moment when it says it's loading some files. The message says something like this: "We're sorry, but Office 2007 cannot upgrade from an existing copy. Please uninstall and remove all related components and try again." It actually says a longer and more specific message, but this is what I remember and what the message tries to mean. So I uninstalled the copy the computer had, browsed the program files and got rid of everything related to office, then I put the disc again and the message appeared again. I really don't know what's happening, and the message keeps on appearing everytime I try to install that copy of Office. An important thing I considered to include in this thread is the fact that my uncle bought the computer in the US, so all the software is in English, including the Windows copy and since we live in Mexico, he wanted to install a Office 07 copy that is in Spanish. It has never been a matter of problem to install an Office copy in Spanish on a Windows that is in English, at least in previous versions. So I really don't know if this language stuff can be a problem, which I don't think so. I told my uncle that I can format the computer and make a clean install, but before I do that, I wanted to know if there's anthing I can do and avoid the hassle of losing 2 hours formatting and reinstalling everything adn no getting the wanted results Thanks, people.
Formatting is a little drastic in my opinion. When you uninstalled office and then manually went through to clean up what's left, there are the registry keys that are left behind that may be at the seat of your problem. What you may find beneficial is to run a cleaner like ccleaner (freebie) in reg mode, let it do it's thing and then restart your pc. Manually removing leftover folders etc is very good practice btw, not all uninstallers do a good job. Anyways, hope this helps out some.
