Ive been trying to install Xp on my Vista preinstalled Acer Pc . I have the Partition made , then I boot up the XP boot dvd , and after it loads the files it tells me " Windows has encountered errors and is closeing to prevent damage " I tried makeing my own boot dvd with power packer , and added all possible drivers , but still got the same error . It loads the files , but I get the error screen before I get to the screen where I choose which drive I want to install on .
It's probably possible to do what you're wanting, but I've never done it that way. It's pretty much always been recommended to install XP first and then install Vista for a dual boot machine. However, this probably won't work for you, because your restore discs won't give you the option of installing Vista on a 2nd partition. Your best bet is to install both with retail discs, starting with XP first. There may be another solution, but I'm not familiar with it.
