I have a WMP video I'm trying to play (in version 9.0) and I'm getting a message that I do not have the codec needed (but no info as to which one that is). The video will play, but no audio. File info says audio compression is MPEG Layer 3. I've already tested whether I have this codec, and I do. (http://soundamerica.com/codec.htm).

Any suggestions or info on codec detection software? Is there a piece of software out there like GSpot, for Mac users, where I can detect which codec is missing?

Hi, not really a mac person so the stuff i tell u mite not worth, but to be honest its worth a shot. Firstly, try downloading Fraunhofer MP3 Codec Pro, i have version v1.268 but im sure there is a more advanced version than this. If its mp3 this should help clear it up. Although i normally just use a program called Media Player Classic - not sure whether this works on Mac but this works a treat, will play ANYTHIN and if codecs etc are required normally gives a link to where u can obtain this. Hope this helps u. If any of this is incorrect for Mac than i apologise in advance. But its worth a shot, good luck

As far as I can see, that codec is available for PC download only. Thanks though.
