Don't know if this belongs in DVDR forum or XBOX forum, because I'm not sure what the problem is. I have multiple video formats (avi, mpeg mostly) from my own home movies. I have used Ulead as well as Nero to author these clips into movies, and then used those software packages to burn to DVD.

I have a LITE-ON burner (fully updated firmware), and have used DVD-R, DVD+R from various manufacturers: Sony, Memorex, and Maxell. I even tried a DVDRW from Memorex, but apparently the LITE-ON burner isn't a true DVDRW as advertised.

After burning over a dozen different attempts, NONE of them have booted up in my Xbox. In fact, I don't even get the "Unrecognized Format" error from Xbox, just a flash of light and a blank black screen.

No other problems with my Xbox that I know of. In fact, I burned a Maxell DVD-R on the same computer a year ago with an old version of Ulead, and it still plays on my Xbox. Also, the disks I thought were coasters DO play just fine on a standard DVD player I have on the other computer.

Looking for any clues, hints, tricks. Judging from the fact that there aren't that many posts to this problem, could I be unique?

    Thanks,
    Strngcedr

    Hi strngcedr
Xbox's PS2's can be quite picky with media.

Best bet would be to take the burn speed down a notch and booktype +R disc to DVD-Rom to increase the capability.

Depending on the model of the LiteOn and version of Nero - Nero will automatically booktype the +R media.

Xbox still play games and original dvd's - just the backup's give you a problem?

Thanks. I'm trying Nero Vision 4. And yes, the Xbox is working just fine on everything - games, DVDs, even that one burned home movie DVD from last year. Just the burned dvds I've done in the last few weeks are getting me no where.

What is booktyping/bitsetting? I've done some research, and think I understand, but all my software versions of Nero, Ulead and Roxio, I can't find the option to change it.

Usually Nero will do it automatically for most of the newer LiteOn's om +R media.
You can check here and have it set to automatic or DVD-Rom. Have a +R disc in the drive.
    NeroToolKit>CD-DVD Speed>Extra>bitsetting.

Booktyping sets a field in the +R media that makes the DVD appear to be a DVD-Rom to the player.

Depending on the the rated burn speed of the media - if it newer like the 16x media the XBox laser may have a harder time reading it. Just my experience but the consoles like XBox & PS2's are much picky w/ media.

For the media I'd stay away from the Memorex and use the Made in Japan only Sony or Maxell. Verbatim too. The made in Japan (Verb is the exception) usually been you'll get a good manufacturer that's more compatible w/ burners and drives.
