I like Wmp 9.0, and I don't want to download or install any other programs if I don't have to.
I'd like to be able to play my dvd's, iso's/mds files, but for some reason, I'm missing codecs.
I'm pretty sure it worked before without installing anything, but I guess i'll have to this time.
What's the most basic codec/package or program I guess, that I can install to play these files?
I just did a complete wipe of my hard-drive and reinstalled everything (win-xp pro - sp2 and 3 now)
    thanks.

Download a codec pack called K-Lite MEGA Codec Pack, all your gonna need, if not the MEGA then the FULL either way go for K-Lite here's a link, http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm hope that solves your prob, my WMP has always had probs with DVD's and btw if I remember correctly WMP was never able to play ISOs your gonna need a mounting program like daemon tools www.daemon-tools.cc
    edit--
Why not get WMP 10 anyway?

    Thanks for the link.
I heard that wmp9, was a bit better because you can drag'n'drop songs in your playlist wherever you wanted to, up or down the list. In wmp10 you can't. Also something about registering mp3z or along those lines in wmp10.
I mounted the iso images before and wmp did play them, i don't remember if i had installed that codec lite pack before, but ill try it this time around.

Those are rumours, you can do that perfectly fine in WMP10 why would Micrososft take a step back anyway? :p Tell me how it goes.

Well the media player classic is playing the iso, but holy geeez the volume just sucks.
I have an onboard s/card, but it has played louder than that before.
    I can't win. >:|

When it comes to free players, either VLC or BSPlayer are the best, give em a try. BTW are u listening on headphones or something?

    Nope none of them worked.
I just did a reinstall of the entire c:drive (format & all).
Starting from scratch, but for now, just leaving everything as is.
I really wish I knew what I did on my previous setup
    Not listening to headphones, nope.
