My burner is an HP 9100i.

I have 4 cd-rw's that I burned my mp3s onto. I'm pretty sure I used DirectCD so that I could drag and drop. I did this using DirectCD 3 under Win98se. I recently upgraded to XP pro, so I had to uninstall the DirectCD (and Easy CD Creator).

I can read two of the CD-RWs just fine. However if I put either of the newer 2 of the 4 into the burner I get a message that says the following:

Invalid directory entry has been encountered. Some content may be lost or inaccessible.

Is there a utility or burning software I can use to recover the files on these two CDs? I've even tried reading them on an older Win98 machine with the above software installed, and I just get a Drive not Ready message.

    This is so frustrating.

You need to goto roxio's website and download a UDF reader.

I also found that if I left a CDRW in the burner and just leave it there during bootup/shutdown, there is a chance that some of the data on it can be lost forever.

Well I tried the UDF reader and it didn't work. This SUCKS! (Thank you very much for the reply though.)

So there is no utility out there that can recover files that are lost in this manner?

    Thanks!!!

Try in every drive you can find. Especially burners.
Never use CDRW for archival. Mine too (Memorex 4x), and some of a friend's were dead after several monthes.
They were still recordable, but the original data was lost.
