I bought a lite-on 1693s yesturday and the lowest speed it will let me write at is 6x.I am using taiyo yuden and maxell media,and i have the latest version of firmware.
so what is your issue then? considering the fact you are using GOOD QUALITY dvd media, there is NO reason to write everything @4x, which is what seems like you want to do... stick w/ the 6x that is available to you...it will be just fine, there is very little difference between 4x and 6x burns...i have had the 1693s for several months now, i burn ALL my Taiyo Yuden and the few Maxells i have @8x...no issues on my side~ ur firmware is KSOB i assume? that would be the LATEST firmware if you claim to have the latest...most people that i know that use this drive use the KSOA firmware with good success...anyways, good luck docTY~
