Ok, my pc was bought as a set with a capture card installed and drivers were pre installed( it came with no drivers for the capture card on a disc), it has worked fine untill I installed a different operating system. I changed from windows xp media center to windows xp pro.

With the new os nero will recognize my capture card as a "Hauppauge WIn TV PVR PCI II Capture", It will show the video and audio fine, but when I hit the record button I get a message, "Capture card has failed to start" or something similar. I tried Pinnacle and it does not recognize anything.

I assume there are no drivers so I searched on the net and supposedly found the ones I needed and installed them, but no change.

Any one know what Im doing wrong?? Other than nero displaying "Hauppauge WIn TV PVR PCI II Capture" I have no way to tell what kind of card I have.

    Any Ideas??

    Thanks

Look in the device manager under sound, video and game controllers
and see if you can identify the device.

    Ok thanks for the input.

Ok Ive checked and it shows the Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II (26xxx) to be working properly.

But it does show a conexant's btpci wdm video capture device that has a exclamation mark and says this device cannot start. (Code 10)

But I think that may have something to do with a universal capture card driver I installed, but could never get to work.

    What do you think??

Probably. I would probably remove the conexant's device
and then check the device manager again.

Then I would visit Hauppauge website and get the latest drivers,
    and TV application.

I have the hauppagauge pvr-150, and that is the same description (WIn TV PVR PCI II) I get when I choose it as the default tuner. But that might just be a generic name for all hauppagauge cards. My pvr 150 card doesn't say pvr150 on it, it only has a part number "5187-7619".

You need that conexant driver, without it, it won't work. Conexant is the mpeg hardware encoder chip on the tuner card.

Depending on the age of your computer you can probably narrow down what tuner card you have, The pvr 150/250/350 are no longer produce, but would have been available 2-5 years ago. The newer hvr 1600 tuner cards are on the newest computers.

Thanks for all of the replies.

I pulled the card out today and mine also has the part number: 5187-7619.

So I googled that and came up that it is a hauppagauge pvr-150 like you jony218. I then visited the manufacturer web site and downloaded the driver package and wintv thing for that card. Drivers installed correctly, but I have the same problem.

Jony 218, the conexant driver you mention, should that have been included in the driver package I downloaded?? Or something different. If not could you please direct me to a page I might could download it or something, apparently we have the same card.

I would have thought the manufacturers site with the drivers would have solved my problem, now that I Know what card I have.

    Thanks for any help

Ive been seaching all over for that driver, but cant seem to come up with it. Im not even sure if that is what I need. On the Hauppauge site in the FAQ section I found my problem listed below:

(Error Code 10: This device cannot start

Look in the Device Manager to verify that the drivers have been installed and configured correctly. To do this, simply Right-Click on the "My Computer" icon and click on "Properties". Then click on the "Hardware" tab and the "Device Manager" button. In the Dev. Mgr, look for "Sound, video and game controllers" Click on the small (+)plus sign next to this category to see its list of installed devices. You should see the Hauppauge WinTV listed here.
If it is not listed here, the drivers have not been installed correctly and would require re-installing them.

Try moving the WinTV card to a different PCI slot in the system. If there are any resource issues with the WinTV card and any other device in the system, this would reassign the resources for the WinTV.

Open the Control Panel - System - Advanced. In the Performance section click on the Settings button, then the Advanced tab. In the Memory Usage section located here, choose Programs instead of System Cache.

Make sure that the latest drivers for your VGA card are installed as well.)

I have done all of this except move the card to a different slot, I could try that I guess. I just am not sure why it would work in that slot one day and not the next for a slightly different OS.

    Any Thoughts??

Scroll down the page till you reach Accessories the decoder drivers there
    http://www.hauppauge.com/html/sw_pvr_pci.htm

If that's of no use you may have to get a cd or install pixelview pro3 software & driver,i have a compro tv card as well as a pixelview pro3 on diff comps both have conextant chips sets, the compro tv card had tv scanning issues so i installed the pixelview software & driver & it works great i can even use the pixelview software to record,i got the idea from others who had mixed n matched other cards software to get their tv cards working.

Just used your advice to sort out a problem I had with a connexant dvbt capture card, I thought it was knackered and was on the verge of lobbing it at the wall :)

    Cheers
