    Hi! First Post.

If I am in the wrong section please forgive me, and redirect.

I am in the process of converting my VHS collection to digital format.

I have the equipment to go either of two different directions.

I have a Liteon DVR that burns DVDs from my VHS tapes. I then copy the DVD to my hard drive, where I can process with DVD2AVI.

I also have a Canon Camcorder where I can record up to 90 minutes of VHS material. I can then import the new "digital" signal into my pc through a fire wire card.

Any idea as to which method will produce the better quality avi file?

I must admit I am very impressed with the Liteon machine, as I can record at various time lengths, and then convert the final product to a regular DVD. iow - I can record upto 6 hours on the Liteon, yet still end up with a regular CD that will play in my stand alone DVD player.

Is the bitrate of the finalized DVD constant, no matter how long the recording time of the DVD was set for?

I componet video the best choice for recording with the Liteon?

    TIA - Wayne
