Hi, I hate joining a forum and asking for help in my first post, but this place seemed like the best, so I hope you'll forgive me!

I just got a miniDV camera and have no prior experience with video cameras or video editing. My problem is, when I capture from my camera to the computer using a USB, I can't get a higher resolution than 160x120. This seems to be about the size of the camera's LCD screen. I've tried changing it through preferrences and other such options, but I see nothing that can help.

I've run the video through my TV and it's fine. I'm just a bit stuck.

Anyone know what I could be doing wrong?

I'm using Vegas Movie Studio 4, but I've tried various other programs with the same results.

    Thanks for you help.

Get firewire to transfer, not usb. An addon card is less than $50 if you haven't got firewire already.
It sounds like you're using usb 1.1, not usb2.0, thus the smaller frame size, because usb1.1 is extremely slow, and any larger video wouldn't transfer properly.
Try WinDV, specifically designed to capture from DV cams.
