I have old cassette tapes where I interviewed Grandparents and Parents for the sake of preserving memories. I hope to get this on cd. I only have a am/fm tape player that see use when electricity is out. Have new PC of when to use for conversion.
How do I go about getting this converted? Besides a medium of which to play the tapes in order to copy, what type cable or other equipment do I need. I am paranoid of even playing them given their age so if can do this the first time...would be great. Also recommend type cd if know of any.
    Thanks

i remember interviewing my gran for a school project years ago, brought a smile to my face i read you have done the same but to preserve memorys...anyway you need some recording software on your pc that can capture the audio (i think nero has something that can do this) next you need a phono to phono lead (Exactly the same as the lead thats on the end of your earphones but instead of earphones at one end and the phono plug at the other you will have to phono plugs, one at each end) Most electrical retails will sell these eg

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=29539&criteria=Phono&doy=27m8

Now plug one end into your cassette deck and the other end into the back of the pc (marked as a speaker but with the soundwaves arrow pointing toward the speaker. The other port with the soundwaves arrow pointing out should have your pc's speakers conneted to it)

Start up your recording program on your pc and click the record button (make sure you've told the program where the audio sorce is comming from) and press play on the tape deck. You will know if you've done this right as the tapes audio will be playing through your pcs speakers as the program is recording..

If you find that the recording audio is low then turn up the volume on the tape deck (not pc)and this should rectify the problem.

Hope this helps if not let me know in your responce and will try and help u locate a good program for the job.

Thank you so much! I will definitely update once project is completed. BTW, you do not know how many family members and I have listened to my Grandma since she died a few years ago...wish more people would do this sort of thing. Thanks again.
