hey i just recently purchased a xbox and a chameleon mod with adapter my xbox was made in 9/2003 so im not sure what ver it is. my question is how do you install the rivets and do i need to solder power and eject wires to the motherboard..i did notice on the desciption of the adapter it says if its a ver 1.3 or newer xbox slight modifications need to be done...what are the slight modifications. thanx..
ok i just installed the chameleon mod chip w/adapter and when i hit the power button the eject button started blinking red to green and nothing would show on the screen and the heatsink got really hot, but once i unplugged the modchip from the adapter and turned it on again it booted up the normal way...please help
I am running into the same problem with a similar Xbox. If anyone has any clues, please let us know. Thanks.
You can be sure any XBox with a MFG date after the middle of Aug 2003 is a v1.5 XBox. You will need to solder 2 extra wires from the motherboard to the LPC. One for 3.3volts and the other for Ground. Also you must use the EvoxM7 bios. RustyDog
thanks for the info. can you direct me to a site where the directions are for doing that install? thanks again
Tis is probably the simpliest pic of the 2 needed wires: http://www.eurasia.nu/images/submitted/xbox_v1_5_lpc_fix.jpg Once the wires are connected then just follow the Install Manual on xodus-chip.com for the No solder adapter install. And use the EvoxM7 bios. RustyDog
when you install the bios do you burn the two bin files to a cdrw ? do you have to change any switches on the modchip for it to work or is there a special program to use to put the bios on the chip ? why wouldnt the bios that comes on the chip work ?? thanks again....
The BIOS that comes with the Chameleon is meant for Linux. You can only flash the first part of the BIOS with the CDRW method as far as I know. Then after you get Evox running you can use the settings thru the ini file to flash the other sections of the chip.
ok i cant get this thing to work i soldered the two wires and it still does the same thing is there any other place on the motherboard that i can get 3.3 volts from that isnt so small of a solder point....help !!!!!
My friend must have a version 1.4 Xbox because I flashed the Evox M7 BIOS and it works now. Thanks for all the insight guys.
I have recently purchased a Chameleon with the soderless adapter, and the tie ins for the power and eject button. I bought my xBox about 6 months ago second hand, and have no idea what version it is. I got it in and working, (the blue light was flashing) I figured out how to flash the bios.... did that. Everything seems like it worked, the console ran some stuff, and powered down. Took the disk out and turned it back on, runs the normal boot screen except that now "XBOX" is written in red now rather than green. I can't get it to recongnize any discs that I make with EVO-X on it.... any ideas?!?!?!??! Thanks for the help!
Take out the advanced video cable, stick in the old one that came with the Xbox, then make a cdrw with NOTHING but a 256 k EvoX bios and stick in into the Xbox after leaving the thing on for about 60 seconds to let it boot up the chameleon menu. Dice.
I just recieved my chameleon chip(w/ solderless adapter) and installed it(seemed easy enough). when i power on my xbox, it powers down then powers on again. it does this 3 times, then the light flashes green and red. I have looked on these forums and the net for the solution. so far everything i have found points to either a bad connect to the lpc or a bad flash. i have checed and double checked my connections, and followed the installation guide to the letter. when i pull the chip off the pins, the xbox boots up fine. can i re-flash the chip with a programmer, if so will the matrix programmer work? i know my xbox manufacture date is 09/08/2003. if i am understanding correctly, the post earlier in this thread mentioned anything after the middle of august is v1.5 and im guessing that mine is not since the 8th is not quite the middle of august. is there anything else im missing? im terrible with soldering and would rather not deal with it if i dont have to. thanks for helping a simple noob.
Yes, you can use the Matrix Programmer to flash your Chameleon. That is what I use to flash the chips I install in my customer's units. I only ran into one problem but it ended up being a bad chip. Make sure you flash the Evox M7 BIOS to the chip since it appears you either have a v1.4 or v1.5 XBOX. If you have a v1.4 then things should be okay. If you have a v1.5 then you might need to do some soldering of wires.
I had problems with the new Chameleon LE with Evox M7 Bios. Try flashing the chip with the katest Xecuter bios
Okay, what about M6? I have a 1.2 version Xbox, and I'm trying to get rid of the Linux flash on mine, but it's going to take some work I guess. Will the M6 work alright on a version 1.2? Just curious.
If you have an older XBOX you theoretcally can use any BIOS. I use the Xecuter 4977 BIOS and it is working great for me. I have a version 1.1 XBOX. I also put that BIOS on my customer's XBOXes and it works great. Nice to know that the latest Xecuter BIOS supports the v1.4 and v1.5 XBOX models. I am going to have to try that out next time I get a newer unit. I hope it works better than the 4878 version which gave me problems.
ok, i got my mod chip working over the weekend! my friend had a matrix programmer, we hooked the chip up to the programmer and it said the cromwell bios was on the chameleon...i used the programmer to flash it with the evox bios, throgh an evox disk into the drive and bingo! i would suggest to anyone else to program your chip with a matrix programmer if you are having similar problems. Thanks to all for the advice!
I got my chip working, I had to use the MA Audio hack to get it evo-x running. Then I used Evo-x to reflash my bios. what a pain!
I'm curious. What AU audio hack is that? I'm currently trying to reflash my bios with M7, having accidently flashed with a shitty linux bios. Now my chip refuses to reflash, even after half a dozen dvd-r attempts, and more than 2 dozen cd-rw flash attempts with 300 meg dummy files, and linuxbio.bin files up the ass. The thing will ONLY respond to linuxboot.cfg files, and even then linux doesn't seem to want to run on the thing. I'm in a rut, easybuy2000.com is out of programmers, and I need to get M7 flashed SOMEHOW. Any help? Should I be naming the cd itself something when I put it in there? I tried LINUXBOO.BIN, LINUXBIO.BIN, LINUXBOO, and LINUXBIO, and nothing wants to work. It comes up with Xbox Linux Clean Bios 1.8 screen, when I take out the chip, the xbox boots flawlessly, so it shouldn't be hardware... OH, and this might make a difference, but the chip doesn't flash the led anymore. Anything? GOD I love this site...
