Changing Ram is as simple as changing the parts,

What you need to make sure is to know what kind of ram you need, eg DDR, and the Mhz , eg 333,400, that it runs at.

If you had a 256 stick, I assume you have four slots available for Ram, then put 4 X 256 sticks in.

If you only have 2 slots, maybe your Motherboard supports 2 X 512.

To be absolutely sure what your Motherboard will accept, get the manufacturer name and serial or model number off the board and go to the manufacturer's website and find the specifications of your board.
