I purchased 2 512mb of memory. But I got it really cheap from a discount online store. I use the new DDR2 memory. Will this cheap memory damage my computer or make it unstable? The name brand memory is like $60 more.

I'm no expert... but as I understand it, cheap RAM cannot damage the rest of your computer, since all it does is temporarily store information for programs. However, if your new RAM has a slower bus speed than your old RAM, your old RAM might end up operating at that slower speed as well.

According to the manual, it says upgrade with DDR2-533, PC2-4200 240pin. And that's exactly what I got. I was just worried about the quality of the brand. 35 bucks for 512 megs is unbelievable!
