Hey everybody, I just found a much cheaper way to rent Dvd's, I was using Blockbuster's in store movie pass, and I have used Netflix and Blockbuster's online program in the past, but Blockbuster has made a huge improvement, you can take your online movies back to a Blockbuster store and exchange them, like coupons, for other in store movies, the code the store gave me was "92299B" and I got two weeks for free and an instant coupon that I used when I was there, the prices are the same as Netflix as far as I can tell but I think I can get double the movies by exchanging them in the store, and the guys at the store said when I bring the movies back to the store, they send my next online movies immediately so I don't have to wait for the warehouse to get my movies back.

This has nothing to do with backing up movies that you own. Will ask that it be moved to a more appropriate forum, if there is one...

I switched to blockbuster's on-line rental program about 5 months ago after an unfavorable dispute with netflix over my address change; I wouldn't have given big blue the opportunity to take my money otherwise.

I don't care too much for all the automated e-mails that I get from 'em when they ship/receive my movies to/from me so i usually delete anything that came from blockbuster, but one caught my eye a month or so ago. They were promoting a change in their service which got me worried. Anytime a retailer changes something about what they offer, it typically isn't in the customers' favor or perhaps becomes less advantageous to the customer. So I was really thrown off guard once I understood what they were really hyping. Apparently they were beginning to offer a different option for returning my on-line rentals.

Instead of sealing them up in the return envelopes like I did countless times with netflix and and already several times with blockbuster's service, I bring my movies back to any old blockbuster. The e-mail mentioned that these envelopes now act as coupons for free in-store rentals. "They do what now?" were my thoughts. So i called the closest store to me that i found on their website and the guy told me that in a couple of weeks they would be giving me a free in-store rental for every on-line return i brought them.

"Holy Shipoopie!" was my next thought. So now, instead of getting my 6-10 rentals a week in the mail, i could also be getting an additional 6-10 in-store rentals simply by taking my on-lines to the store instead of dropping them in the mail. My opinion of blockbuster has changed drastically. I used to refuse to rent at a blockbuster and give them any of my money, but ever since my unsavory cancellation with netflix, big blue's been nothing but great for me.

I was in there earlier this week exchanging my movies when i heard one of the employees trying to talk someone into trying their on-line program and all the great things about it. The guy mentioned that he was happy with his netflix service and just wanted some last minute picks for his night off. So the employee points to the split doorway that we walk in and out of making a comment about all the netflix evelopes that they had taped all over their windows. I was curious myself why in the world they put netflix's logo all over their windows. He said that those were from a promotion they just ended on Monday where they would extend the whole bring-in-your-online-rentals-to-exchange-for-instore-rentals thing to everyone who had Netflix. And that all the ones taped to the windows were from people who came in for that promotion (bringing in their netflix rentals to exchange for in-store blockbuster rentals) who “realized what they were missing” (his words, not mine) and signed up to try blockbuster’s on-line service for free for 2 weeks right there in the store on their laptop and cancelled………..CANCELLED their netflix subscription in the same visit. I was truly amazed at this very ball-sy move by blockbuster. They had finally figured out a way to pull people away from their largest competitor and for the customers to fully realize how great of a deal they were getting.

So that customer wound up subscribing right there on their laptop like numerous netflix subscribers before him! It was odd feeling excited for this guy who is just now realizing how many movies he can get now. Of course, he’ll never get as quick a turn-around as me. I “watch” my rentals quicker than most and by the time I’m ready for more, there’s more in my mailbox! I’m loving it! The clerk also shared some more useful information that only confirms what “grswat” said; if that is his real name! That yes, as soon as they scan in my on-lines for the exchange, blockbuster is aware of my return and will begin to ship out the next ones on my list. So instead of waiting on the post office to get them back to Cleveland, OH (which probably wasn’t too long anyhow), it’s almost instant! When I’m done “watching” my last of the 3 movies I seal ‘em up, drive 5 minutes to my blockbuster store, browse for more movies that I want to see, hand my on-line returns and my in-store returns to the clerk with my membership card, and BAM like that blockbuster’s gonna send me more from my list and I’ve got 3 more to take home right now. Heck, I even have time to actually watch 1 or 2 before more show up in the mail! The guy said that they’ve been told to mention that if you get your on-line returns to them by noon, the distribution center can have your next movies shipped that same day. Very cool news to my ears. He also mentioned that the coupon that gets e-mailed to me every month is now good on their videogame rentals.

So here it is……my subscription to blockbuster’s on-line service runs me $17.99 a month. With that, I get 3 movies out at a time, a free in-store movie/game rental with my monthly e-mail coupon, and an in-store movie rental for every on-line return that I bring into that store. I am now very thankful for netflix’s big blunder with my address change 

The same $17.99/mo. subscription to netflix didn’t get me nearly as many movies! Now, using the prices that I would pay in this blockbuster ($4.50 for a movie and $8 for a game), I now will average:

    8 on-line rentals = $36
    8 in-store rentals = + $36
    $72 in movies/week
    x 4 weeks
    = $288 in movies/month
    + $8 e-mail coupon game
    a whopping $296 rentals in a month!

    Geebus

He gave me a handful of these long yellow “flyers” to give away to any friends or family I’d see over the holiday who would like to try the service for two weeks free. Now on the back, they all have the same code to put into the website so it doesn’t seem like any sort of unique number that only gets to be used once and it expires, and it matches the one that grswat (if that is his real name) gave above. It was 92299B and the website was www.blockbuster.com/total so it must be up there for anyone to take advantage of. It went through okay when my wife signed up for it. But I had to use a different credit card than the one I had on my own account. Which is odd that I realized I was using the same credit card, but not that we shared the same address. And now I’ll get twice the amount of movies sent to my house for the next 2 weeks, and she got one of the e-mail coupons just for signing up for the free two weeks (which I will use on yet another game) woot! I just gotta remember to cancel her subscription before it automatically charges for her next month of service.

The only downsides to the on-line/in-store exchange program is that I had to sign up for an in-store account when I got there. Not that it took very long or was very hard but it was just unexpected when I walked in the door to start doing it. You would think that a company with the technological resources available for such a program would have a way of integrating you’re your on-line renting account to be the same as your in-store renting account but oh well. And also that if I were to rent something in-store with one of my exchanges, it doesn’t automatically take that movie off of my on-line list. Their response to this argument was that I could log-in there at the store on their laptop and change my queue but I would much rather do that at home on my computer that doesn’t have a problem maintaining an internet connection and where I can enjoy the luxury of chugging a Big K grape soda while I type with the other hand white-n-nerdy style at my own desk. Thank you very much!

Well, there you have it, fellow backer-uppers. Take this information and do with it what you will. I’m gonna go grab a Big K grape.

I have used netflix in the past and actually am just now getting ready to get rid of it. A friend of mine talked me into trying BBV online. I must say I was very skeptical about it, since I have been a devoted Netflix customer. Now I have my BBV online and am cancelling the Netflix. It has been very nice to be able to return the movies into our local store and pick up more dvd's to watch. Now you can also get free game rentals when you take your online dvds into the store.

I have been using Block Buster for a year now. To bad I don't have a block buster store near me. The closest 1 was 40 minutes away and they are now closed.

In anycase I will stick with Block Buster rather then Netflix because Netflix seems to have their head up their A$$ half the time.

I was with Netflix for years with no trouble. Then 1 day I noticed 3 or 4 days went by without any movies. So I went online to my account and it was set to inactive.

There was no reason or anything given or sent to me about the account being put on hold. So after much searching I finally got Netflix 1-800 Number and called them to find out what was up.

They said my account was on hold because the e-mail address that I had given them (Used for years) was not a valid e-mail account.

They asked if I had been getting e-mails from them and I said yes. I get promotional and billing e-mails all the time from you. They then said that stuff was sent out by a different netlix address and was not the same as the shipping and receiving e-mail address.

So Netflix double checked my e-mail and it was correct with what they had. They then told me to go into my e-mail settings and make sure I did not have them blocked or set as junkmail.

So I went into my ISP e-mail account and set no filters at all on my incoming mail (Which should have let everything go through) and choose for my account to put catched junkmail in my junk e-mail folder (Just incase everything did not get through). I then added both address settings to my allow list that Netflix has and made sure they where not in the block/denied list.

They reset my account and everything was working perfect till another week went by and I went to the site and it said I had an invalid e-mail and needed to give a valid 1 before my account was put on hold.

I just could not understand what the heck was going on because I was still getting the promotion crap from them(Ask a family friend to join and get a free month etc)

So I called them back up again and still got the run around. with them saying it had to be my end. I called up my ISP and they double checked everything and said it had to be on their end. (Which I believed my ISP) because I was getting all my other e-mail from everyone else plus getting the e-mail from their stupid promotion crap.

They still couldn't figure it out so I told them Bye Bye. I am not going to pay for a service that will put my account on hold saying I had no valid e-mail registered when I do have a valid e-mail account with them.
