Hey guys. I have an XBox that I purchased which doesn't have a hard drive at all. The XBox will power up if I place a backup hard drive I have from another XBox, but of course I get an error 5 or error 6. I've even gotten error 16 once or twice. I have no way of getting the eeprom from this XBox. I am looking for the CHEAPEST way possible to get this XBox up and running again. I am looking at the Duo2 Mod Chip since it so cheap and it looks like it may work. My brother will do all the soldering for me. So my question is simply this: Before I purchase this modchip, is their any guarantees that I can get this thing to work? And I have visited their website and read their info about installing it. I have determined that I have a 1.6 Version XBox. I went and downloaded the +M8 Bios that they told me download, but it is only 256KB in size. The tutorial states that I need a 512KB Bios. Does anyone have any ideas for this? If I get this chip and install it... then all I should have to do is put in this bios CD and flash the bios. Then the XBox should work with any hard drive. Right? Please let me know if you can so I don't waste anymore money on this thing. Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks guys.
Yes if you buy the chip and install it correctly it should work fine, i would suggest using the X2 5025 1.6 bios which is 512k here is a link for that http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XUZEI3DR ...after you get it installed and flash the bios,i would put in the HD of your Choice along with the AID 3.0 disc and format the drive...and you should be up and running...
That sounds easy enough. Two more quick questions though... First off... how do I "flash the bios". I am sure there is a tutorial somewhere that I am missing. Can you direct me to one that is correct? Second... the hard drive that I have has already been softmodded using a game exploit. It is an original 8GB Drive and it works in my other modded XBox. (because the eeprom's are the same of course) Can I just use that hard drive without having to do anything with the bios and the AID 3.0 disc?
Okay, I believe I have figured out how to do the flash bios procedure. There is only one more problem I have that needs to be sorted out. As you can see in the tutorial that I have posted below, it says that I have to have the +m8 bios for a version 1.6 Xbox. It also says it has to be 512kb in size. The +m8 bios is only 256kb in size. That has me totally confused. The other bios that you told me about is in fact 512kb in size. Can I use that instead? Or should I follow this tutorial to the t just to make sure I do it right? And if so, how do I make this 256kb bios into a 512kb Bin file? Tutorial: I believe once I get that figured out, I shouldn't have anymore problems. My other question is if the hard drive will work without having to use an AID disk since it is already softmodded. Thanks again for all your help guys. I appreciate it.
just flash the bios with the 512k x2 5025 i gave you it should work without a glitch.....and then after that all you will have to do it put that 8GB softmodded HD in unlock it and then lock it back to that motherboard....but here is the Evox M8+ v1.6 512k bios for you if you want to be on the safe side http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EFX44QSX

Well, I have failed at getting it to work with the chip. I am sure that we installed everything correctly and did everything the way it was supposed to have been done. But when we finished installing the chip and turned on the XBox, we were still getting an error. It was error 09 this time. But that was it. There were no screens asking about a bios to be loaded. Even after I reinstalled the hard drive I was still getting either error 05 or error 06. So the chip idea didn't work and I am afraid that hotswapping isn't working either. Are their any other ideas out there that can get thing to work? WITHOUT me having to spend anymore money? I already have 50 bucks wrapped up into this thing. Thanks again for any help you can give.
No. The hard drive works fine in my soft modded XBox. What went wrong was I reformatted the drive using XBoxhd maker. When I reformatted it, I used the disk I had made for my other XBox. So the passwords and eeprom is wrong. I have just incountered another problem though. When I turn on my (broken) XBox, I get an error 06. That is to be expected. But for some reason, I can't do anything with the DVD Drive. It won't open or anything. I was thinking about trying to start the box by opening the disk drive and then putting in the Splinter Cell Game to see if it would load. But the drive won't do anything.
Nevermind. It's obvious that no one is reading my posts anyhow. I have already explained everything that I know to the best of my ability.
I honestly have no idea what is wrong with the DVD Drive. It just started doing that yesterday. To be honest, it is over my head now. So I believe I am just going to count my losses and sale this thing for what I can get out of it. Thanks again for your time.
