I'm having good luck with the Plextor 708a dvd writer along with the Ritek G04 blank media. Rather than wearing out the 708a ripping and then burning my dvds, I'd like to purchase a seperate dvd-rom drive just for ripping purposes only. Does it really make a difference on the drive? A few blocks away I could purchase an LG brand dvd-rom drive for little money but do I get what I pay for. I learned a lot from this group and took the advise of many of its members. I'd like to get some feedback from others who had experianced the pros and cons of various dvd-rom drives. Thanks
With dvd writers being so cheap now i would purchase a second dvd writer rather than a dvd rom.This will give you more options like copying 2 discs at the same time.You may as well spend the extra few bucks and give yourself more options.I find having 2 writers if one will not do what i want it to the other normally will. The cheapest burners still cost twice what a good ROM does. Not to mention burning two discs at a time is not as easy as just popping in an extra burner and going at it. There are important system considerations as well. My highest recommendations for a ROM go to the Lite-On 166S/167T. They tear through everything like nobody's business and can be had for around $30. There not that exspensive in the uk and the system requirements are not that high.But i can see the point depending on budget and pc you are working from this i did not really take in to count.I was just thinking what i would do and not others fair point. John179
Burning more than one DVD with your PC is very possible and also a great way to double your coaster production if something goes wrong. I'm just saying to approach it carefully and have a good understanding of what you are trying to do. Most folks only need one copy of a movie unless they want to distribute copies of their own productions. That Lite-On is a rather noisy drive with a weak tray mechanism. It is my favorite though because it is so fast compared to others I have tried, and at that price I can get a new one if this one goes tits up.
To be honest i have only copied two at the same time twice as a trial to see if they came out ok and they did.I don't really have any need for this it was just to see if my pc could take it.But the main option i have now is if something goes wrong i can not blame on the writer as i have 2 and it is very unlikely that both are going to crash at the same time for me to blame it on my writer when things go wrong.To be honest though i have never found my lite-on drive to be noisy but a good all round performer.If or when my lite-on drive is at the end of its days it will be replaced by another lite-on drive becuase there real value for money.
