Hi guys, I was just wondering if any of these are a good choice for my next burner. LG GSA-4166B NEC ND-4550 NEC ND-4551 NEC ND-4570 NEC ND-4571A Pioneer DVR-110 - can write to dvd-ram media as well Pioneer DVR-111 - can write to dvd-ram media as well Pioneer DVR-110D Pioneer DVR-111D any help would be appreciated I'm in the U.K so online sites would be better if possible
Check out the benq drives, mainly the 1650. Here's a link to the UK,but should be many different stores with them. I'm not sure what you are looking for in a burner. Here's my requirements: Booktyping capability with no special hacked firmware. 99.9+% success rate Regularly updated fw versions-to keep up with the newer media. 95% stand alone compatability rate-plays virtually anywhere after booktyping. 3000+ burns-when only using drive to burn. Excellent warranty Low system requirements They'll burn just about anything you throw at them. I know nothing about the dvd-ram format. All those brands you listed are very good, but no experience with them. I do know benq drives. Have 2 of the 1620s,1640,and now a 1650 and these babies will perform. These drives use a utility called qsuite to do the booktyping/burn control/solid burn-it actually learns how to properly burn your discs/and qscan-which scans your blank discs to tell you if it is safe to burn them at a certain speed. Edited out my link, LOL. My bad. I forgot benq likes to use very similar model #'s on their dvd-rw and dvd-rom drives. A little confusing.Just 1 letter difference.
Hi, lextron, of the drives in your list decide if you want/need RAM. If you do then you can drop the 4550/4570/110D/111D. Then drop the 4551/110 as the 4571/111 have the latest Nec chip which is potentially better & certainly going to get longer support from Nec. That would leave you with 3 drives. LG GSA-4166b Nec ND-4571a & the Pioneer DVR-111. Although both the Nec & Pioneer have the same Nec chip, I personally feel that at present the Pioneer is the better of the two. The LG is a good drive too, but there are one or two threads around implying that it's not as good as its predecessor the 4163b.Hence I'd favour the Pioneer. All these drives need good if not top notch media. If RAM is not that important tnen as saugmon points out the current BenQ drives are excellent & are not so media fussy. His link shows you a DVDROM however. Check out: http://www.techfever.co.uk/products.asp?category=CD/DVD/FD+Drives&subcategory=DVD-RW http://www.microdirect.co.uk/productlister.aspx?GroupID=42
