hi, i have dvd-rom TEAC DV-516,lately every dvd that i play there has a choppier and choppier playback., it gets worse. i have an AMD duron 800 mhz, 128 mb ram, a rivata tnt2 model64 graphics card and an onboard sound card Avance ac'97. no, if it has to do with cleaning lenses, how on earth do i do that? thanks, G
oops, typos problem. i meant riva tnt2 and no=now, thanks by the way, i have all the new drivers for every card that i have, i hope someone will give me some solutions.
well u can get lens cleaners for drives but im not sure where. Judging from your specs your computer isnt very up to date. What Operating System are you using? If it's XP, 128mb of RAM is pretty low amount of RAM for XP! Also if XP, have u tried performance tweaking?
i have windows 98, i dont think it has to do with my computers performance, cause i used to watch dvd's fine.
Unfortunately it could be the actual Drive itself! My DVD Drive once went very bad on playback all of a sudden then one day just didnt show up as being connected to the PC anymore! Have you got any warranty?
I hope this is a good web site - I just joined so I could answer your question! You can get lens cleaning CDs lots of places - the Memorex "CD/DVD Laser Lens Cleaner" is on Amazon for $5 (has some positive reviews there) and probably many other sites; I grabbed one at Blockbuster yesterday for $10 since I was in a hurry (didn't fix my problem, unfortunately). Radio Shack carries their own version but the local store was out. The cleaning CD works on both players and PC DVD drives. It also includes some tools for fixing up the audio on your system.
The TNT2 graphics chip is not really ideal for playback of any DVD. Its outdated by about 7 years. This is where I would start. They do sell lens cleaners but I believe is mostly hype. If its something to do with your player than its the media. Dirty, scratched, or cheap. I've taken apart many optical drives and cleaned the lenses but it has never helped any problem I was having. _ _X_X_X_X_X_[small] Amd 1200, ATI All in wonder 8500 DV 383 133 ram 80 GB HD Windows ME Memorex 8X DVD Dual format[/small]
i think i'll just get a lens cleaner, i dont think its the tnt problem cause it used to work fine before. anyway, thank u all for ur help.
Make sure u get one specifically made for a DVD ROM drive, i have heard from a few people that they used cleaners they werent supposed to and got, well, undesirable results!
your problem is the brand TEAC it is the worst brand for anything and dose not last, because when it comes to using a DvD rom on a computer you have to make shore its good and realible and not to buy unknown brands
