I appreciated very much the sites that were listed in my prior post and went through them thoroughly.
As mentioned earlier I have a Toshiba Notebook Pent 4, 1.9 ghz, 512 RAM,mobile processor.

My external burner is a BenQ 162I, dual layer 16X and I use Maxell 4.75+R as recommended by the BenQ support team. I have been using my burner for a few months now scavenging the sites for reading material on how to learn to do backups and certainly find that this site is indeed helpful.

I have a couple of questions, I have been doing the first option in the Clone Dvd and that is "Copy DVD Titles"....copy 1 or more DVD titles.

First I have been very happy with my results, but wondered if I am missing an option where I could set my own speed settings as I read somewhere that 4X was a good speed? Or does the program default to the best speed?

And another question is to do with the "erase after write", if I check off that box; will there be an opportunity to write another backup after my first one is complete??

Also is this first option of the ways to burn the best for quality and speed?

I have looked at the second "Clone DVD"...clone a DVD including all titles and menus. I gather with this one I would end up with more compression trying to burn more data and the quality would not be as good, is that a correct assumption?
When might I want to use this second option??

And lastly, the 3rd option of "Write Existing Data"...process or write DVD files and ISO/UDF images.
I am not clear on how this differs from what I am using the "Copy DVD titles", option 1???

I am sorry if these seem like silly questions, however, I am a Noob and can't totally understand the circumstances that I would use Option 2 and 3 in??

I should mention that I also use Any Dvd, purchased from Slysoft and find this an excellent program!
I hope that someone will be able to reply.

    Thanking you in advance,

    @ Appa

leave the defult speed for the rest of the queries i recommend u use DVD titles the first choice but this is after u have used the nethoeds i have posted in ur perviuos thread

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/209201

Read what i wrote in ur other thread u posted and cif that helps also a friendly reminder do not double post its not allowed also make sure u read the rules :)

I apologize for 2 posts, I will reread the rules again.

I thought that I would get reprimanded for asking the question that I did in this post which was only applicable to Clone DVD where my other post was clearly to get some feedback on Clone DVD and 1 Click Copy DVD to see which was the better program and the reasons that might be. A comparison of the 2.

I still don't have an answer to this query and that is whether if I check off the box in Clone DVD that says "erase after write" whether that will then mean I can only do one back up ater the "first write" and not give me a chance to write a second back up.

Since it is not appropriate to do a dual post, I will reply to the recommendations in the other post comparing the Clone Dvd and 1 Click Copy Dvd and that is that I have used Shrink and know of the issues of lack of updates now to the program Decrypter and so I purchased Any Dvd. And it is definitely doing the job.
I wanted to give Clone Dvd a try as I understood that it would take care of the shrinking of a backup on its own and thus I am using it now on a Trial basis keeping in mind what Shrink also does. I am comparing the 2 programs for ease of use and acceptable quality for my needs.
I definitely will look at the Intervideo program as well and appreciate the comments.
Being a Noob, I wanted to start with programs that were not too complicated and difficult to understand.
As I will not be doing back ups on a regular basis and don't want to have to refer to notes each time in order to get the program working.

I again apologize for doing a double post, but how does one ask different questions?
Put it all into one post??
I did that in one forum and was told to seperate the issues I was inquiring about because it made it complicated for the forum to address and so that is why I did it this way in this forum

    Thankyou,
    Regards

I have read all of the information on Clone DVD and have still not found the answer as to whether or not if I check off the box that says "write erase" whether or not the program will give me the option of doing a second and third back up.

I did not check this box off in the past and so the 2nd and 3rd backups that I did ended up as "VOB" and "VTS" and "INNCONNW1" on my hard drive which caused me an extreme slow down in defragging.

I burn in the first option of Copy Files and not the ISO option, as I read in the tutorial that this was the best option to burn in if you were doing a basic back-up.

I really hope that I can get an answer to this question.

Is there someone out there that can advise on this? Or should I be using the "ISO" option??

Since I am a Noob to all of this I would really appreciate a response as it took many a span of many, many hours to get rid of these "VOB" and "VTS" files.

    Regards

Let me see if I have your question right. If you check the box in Clonedvd to erase the files automatically after the burn, you can still make multiple copies as long as you don't close out the program. After the first copy is burned, you eject that copy, then click the WRITE button again and insert the next blank dvd. You can do this as many times as you want. Once you close out Clonedvd the HD files will be erased. I think this is what you were asking. There is also a box to check if you use RW blanks as a test and want Clonedvd to auto erase the blank every time. Hope this helps.

You bet! That sounds like what I was looking for.

Just one last query, since I did not do that and I used Option 1 of the Clone DVD "Copy Files" , I generated numerous "VOB" and "VTS" files and "INCONNW1" and then this really caused me Mega problems with my Perfect Disk 7 Defrag Program and it took me a long time to Defrag..3 hrs + compared to an original time of 50 - 60 mins, (Now bac to the lesser defrag time however it took me a long time to rid of these files since I am a Noob and I just kept defragging until I found the "INCONNW1" and then deleted that file manually.

I am not a super whiz at burning or computers technically but i do persist. ( I am certain you have gathered this by my comments!!)

I just wanted to ask one last question if I check that Box "write and erase", will that insure that I don't get "VOB" and "VTS" files adding onto my "C" hard drive after I do multiple back ups??

Am I doing the correct option, "Write Files" or should I be using the "ISO", 3rd option.
The Tutorial, appeared that my needs were "Write Files" as I basically was trying to copy a dvd for backup purposes.

I look forward to a reply.

Thankyou for answering clearly my former query,

    Respectful Regards

Yes you are correct. If you check the erase files after burning box they will be deleted. I don't know which guide you have but here is the one off our site here.

    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/full_dvd_to_dvdr_with_clonedvd.cfm

When doing a dvd backup you want to use one of the first 2 choices.
    [bold]Copy DVD Title[/bold] or
    [bold]Clone DVD[/bold].
The first one will copy the movie only for the best quality.
The second one will CLONE the complete dvd but as you stated compression may start off around 50% which isn't good. The second screen shows a list on the right side of everything on the dvd with a checked box in front of every line. As you click on each line it will play in the preview window. If you want to keep that line of video on the copy leave the box checked. If its junk you want to remove uncheck the box. The more boxes you uncheck the higher the quality line will go. When you get to aroung 70% you should get a good copy. Thats how you edit within Clonedvd 2. Hope this helps.

Thankyou very much for the links, I will be busy reading. I am eager to learn and learn by experience.
Went out and bought a small pack of RW+ Maxell Japan as recommended by BenQ and will do some try outs without using up my R+ media. I really appreciate your comments.

I am struggling with this burning, however am getting to understand it a little better now after comments regarding the VOB and VTS and I will have to learn more about the ISO.

I learned the hard way about VOB and VTS with this voluminous file that I couldn't understand nor locate where it was. I forgot that I had just been really starting to do backups and that the rest of the files in my computer are small and I did not know how or where to search for these files that were all part, I imagine of a huge file, so I kept defragging over several days with my Perfect Disk 7 and deleting manually. lol!!!!

Would I have been able to find these files if I did search and typed in VOB or VTS, I tried to search INCONNW1 and that was no good as the search came up with "in use".

I guess that the VOB and VTS files were using it yet. It wasn't until I got rid of my last DVD backup that I could get rid of the INCONNW1.

I will always make certain that I check the write and erase box off for certain now after that horrific affair lol!!!

Should I stupidly forget to check that box, is there an easy way to locate the File of the VOB and VTS and INNCONNW1 and delete them all at once??

Sorry for the mundane question, however the answer would be good to know.

    Respectful Regards!

    @Appa

The Easy way tooo locate and delete the VOB & VTS files are if u use DVD Decrypter u have to put it in a folder so create a folder put the ripped copy in the folder on ur hard drive and u can rip from there to DVD and then u can just delete and remove the folder as per usual :)

    Thats basically it.

Hi Appa, Clonedvd makes a TEMP folder right on the C drive unless you change it to something else. C:/CloneDVDTemp is the location. Very easy to find and delete the files if necessary.
