clone my HD

I have a 60gig HD with XPpro on it and want to move/clone to a 80gig HD. I have a program that works good with 98 but it won't work with XP. I can't seem to find a utility that works with XP. I have tryed using DrvClonerXP. After cloning it will boot up to the screen right before the desktop, and that is as far as it goes. Thanks for any help Alan

XP typically runs of NTFS file system, so it can be a bit of a bugger to clone. It has to be done in dos mode, and since there is no dos mode, you need a program like one of these that can emulate that for you.

 

i got a ?- im pretty sure the answer is no, but is it possible to convert a FAT32 drive to NTFS without loseing the data?

 

Nope. At least not directly. I suppose you could copy all your files on the FAT32 drive off to another drive, format the original as ntfs, and copy everything back over, but I dunno.

 

pcshateme, yes you can convert a FAT32 drive to NTFS. The program to do that comes with Win2000/XP.
Type convert C: /fs:ntfs at a command prompt, substitute C: for the drive you want if it is not C:

Note that it is a one way conversion, the Convert program does not convert back to FAT32.

 

never mind then- cause my C: is FAT32- and its been giving me problems, so i thought it would work better if it were NTFS. Whats different between the 2? and what is better?

Yes, type it at a command prompt. You should not lose anything but of course the smart thing to do is make sure you have everything backed up just in case.
