I burned almost ALL my movies with ANy DVD and Clone DVD2, but I started to test out dvdshrink for the hell of it, and it has this quality feature called video processing and this other feature that lets you decide whether you want Super Soft, Sharp, or Max Sharp, for your videos when compressed. Now im mad because i waisted a batch of DVDs to backup most of my DVDs and some are between 70%, some are 80 some are 90%, but now im mad about the fact that DVD Shrink offers this for movies with a high compression rate, does it REALLY make that much of a difference?
Something about what you said made me open up prefferences on dvd shrink and I discovered some things I did not know about shrink. All Im gonna ask (addressed generally to the forum) Did it come from St. Johns, Antigua as well?
nope it did not and you @Ian_05 your a newb do some searching before you buy and do other things with your dvd's clonedvd2 is a great program i have a 52 wide flat sony t.v. and i have not one issue with any movie ever made on anydvd and clonedvd2 with pixelizations or anything looks dvd perfect; i dont see a differ between recode movies or shrink movies compared to clonedvd2
you won't notice the difference in quality between shrink and clonedvd2 unless the compression is high(over 70% levels of compression, 30% or higher actual compression)or/and you have a big wide screen TV. botton line is, shrink will give you better picture quality, on anything else, clonedvd2 is better.
I agree with Elizerroj.... I use DVDRebuilder with CCE when the compression quality goes below 80%..... but I must admitt that sometimes when the movie is not the best I just let AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 do it's thing and I get great results! my 52" TV doesn't know the difference....... I would have to compare both side by side to see any difference in quality.... but I do know that DVDRebuilder is better because it's an encoder and if you're looking for the best quality out there....... then do it with DVDRB! I've been taking the easy way out with AnyDVD + CloneDVD.... they are that good.
The only reason I asked that is because in the prefferences folder it has *remove macrovision *remove PUOPs
I must have my settings on DVD shrink wrong myself then. I see you guys saying everything looks great, but I was suffering from archival issues, and even screen freeze on some burns. Some of the archival issues only popped up on the big projector screen, but I had alot of issues even on my 64 inch set (using component on the TV). I went ahead and just stepped it all up to DVD-RB/CCE-SP and couldn't be happier. But if you guys are saying that DVD Shrink is just fine, I'd love to know your settings. I don't mind leaving my computer up to encode and burn all night long, but sometimes I'd rather just use the old 20 minute DVDShrink/DVD Decrypter methood and let it fly.
@sandt8...... you say you have some issues with freezing ..... well that's a media problem or you burned too fast.....what are archival issues? I'm use DVDRB with CCE/ProCoder2 and I love that program but I only use it when the quality is less than 80% with AnyDVD +CloneDVD2 or with DVDFab Plat. I have a 52" screen so I don't see any difference.... so far so good! Now if I get that big screen plazma ..... then it's RB for me!
After I posted here, I went on a search for every keyword possible that may have to do with this topic, such as AEC, DVD Shrink Quality, and much more, I came across this DVDRB with some good reviews, im using TY media 4x DVD-R Disks, baught at Supermedia store, and they work great, i burn them at 2-2.4x or sometimes 1x All my burns have been great, But some movies like "war of the worlds" and "40 year Old Virgin" have had more than 25% compression, around 75% Total. Because I burn my movies with Portuguese Audio and English Audio. English for me to watch, and Portuguese for when friends are over. Now... I have had NO problems what so ever with AnyDVD and CloneDVD, but i have only 15days left, so im soon going to go for something Free, such as ShirnkDVD. And on the 40 Year Old Vigin backup I made, there is some pixilation usually around black and darker areas, and, its not that noticable, i have 30" widescreen sony wega CRT HDTV, and i play all the DVDs with my xbox 360, and im satisfied, but i started to see pixilation on movies that had more than 25% compression and then i found out about DVDshrink's AEC options and it really made me kind of mad for burning almost all my dvds during the 25day trial period, and then finding out about DVD shrinks Quality options.. and also finding out about DVDRB and CCE. But thanks alot guys for helping me out and posting comforting responces such as "you wont notice the difference" that clams me down a little lol. But ill experiment with DVDRB and Shrink, buts its just 3 hours for the MAX SMOOTH is insane. dont ya think? is it worth it?
i tried clone on very large movie and it look so bad i deleted the program i just use anydvd shrink, main movie only when you copy all the extras thats what gets you chose burn to iso with decrypter if leave out the extras your compression should not be an issue ps you can burn the extras on another disc i never do
if you copy the main movie only whats left i did not know there was something elese i could leave out
Should I Just go with DVD-RB and CCE to burn ALL my DVD collection? or should I only use it for dvds that require a great amount of compression? I want the Best quality, time is not a problem and using alot of programs isnt either. Can someone just please help me out with what programs i should use for the backup, such as... movies with only 10% compression (around 90%) do it all the way with CloneDVD, but movies with 20% do it with DVDRB. Also Should I Burn all the movies I have with the Max Smooth settings on DVD Shrink? even the ones with 90%?
you can leave out audio, subpicture, extras and title menus with shrink the movie that has given me the pain was led zep disc 2 if you left something out it would play but not play right you could copy the main movie ok but than disc had a lot of extra things you would want for a good backup thats when i treid clone and it looked like legos and dont know nothing else about clone maybe i try it on a diierent movie if you would like a real challenge try that movie
you know i should have and to make a better backup i will use a DL but i got it on SL i made a bunch of coasters trying. i got so many errors i thought i scratched it to the point of no return but it was fine it was just the way i was trying to do it
Rebuilder with an encoder will produce the best quality picture one can get. i don't use it because of two reasons, 1- it takes way too long with my little system and 2- and this might be just my opinion, Recode2 or shrink, main movie only on their best settings would produce a picture quality very close to that of rebuilder. specially Recode2, and under just one hour.
I agree with elizeero, I don't have the time to backup my movies for 2 hours a pop. If I do movie only, dvdshrink is probably the best. But if I want menu's and extra crap, Nero Recode 2 is the best. The quality is great and it will take half the time dvdshrink or rebuilder. But try a test if you can. That's what i have done. Strat
I'm with you jbrock, I just use shrink and anydvd. I have nero 7 and I've only used recode twice (because I had a memory issue that week so shrink was acting strange) but I must say I really liked nero's recode but I had shrink 1st and old habits die slow... I've successfully backed up 363 movies at last count using just shrink and anydvd... thats why we had to find a way to back them up... some of you may already know we have toddlers (crafty dual-layer coaster makers) * as far as settings go, you were probably better off before you tweaked them
