i downloaded some movies from lime wire and they were in avi format. when i tried playing them with windows media player i got a error message which said that media player cannot play this file, the media type is not reconized or a propper codec is not installed. can someone tel me where i can get this codec to download.
XVid or DivX should do it. Plus there are programs that can determine what codec you need for particular videos (future reference). These programs are GSpot or AVICodec. Google em and you should find them. The link to the codecs you'll need for the avi's is here: http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/
More, remember that COmpressing capaibilites of DivX must be purchased, but its DECode capabilities are freeweare. Or install FFDShow to install a general multi-decoding utility...
i got the same problem...but it mepg.. i cant play it or burn it to cd, programs dont support the format type.. i tried gspot and but it says it cannot do it any ideas?
can anyone help? i download everthing, avicodec, winmpg converter, divx, ffdshow, Gspot. nothing it working, or i dont know how to use. well i just download a converter, and i know their is a movie on it becasue i can move frame by frame
I have been using the Kazaa-lite codec pack (standard) for 2 years and have never had a problem with the hundreds of movies I have downloaded from various sites. It already contains G-Spot, ffdshow, WMP Classic and more or you can choose what you want. It is available here at AD or Edskes and is a small download but if using, I would advise uninstalling any other codecs as I have read that they can interact and cause problems.
