If I download any codecs where would I download them to? Is there a particular file somewhere they should be downloaded to? Can I just make a new folder on any drive and keep them there?
Whenever I download any file(s) I always download them to one place so that I know where they are right away. I have only worked with codecs once or twice. But like any file that you are going to install, the thing is already going to put itself where it needs to go for the particular program you are using it for/with. You can't just put files anywhere you want. They must go where the program wants so that it can find and use them to do what you want. The .exe files are automatic install as described. If for some reason you run into a zip file that you must expand and install manually, there is going to be a set of instructions telling you what files to place where. I'll bet my last donut that codecs are going to be .exe type files!
I have been using the Kazaa Lite codec pack and it downloads to Programs or you can save it where you want. I know some don't recommend codec packs but I have been using the Standard for over 3 years with no problems with it (and many others use it, too) or opening any file plus you can choose which features you want during the install.
