codecs

    does anyone know how to get codecs for dvds?

    a friend downloaded revenge of the sith but it says that i have the wrong codec
    and wmp 10 says error downloading codec.
    it plays but no sound

    Get Gspot, open the video, find out what codec you need, download and install it.
    Most likely AC3.

    If it is a DVD then the video will be MPEG2 and the audio will be AC3 or DTS ( I guess it could also be mp2 or LPCM).

    Try Media Player Classic. It has built in decoders for MPEG2, AC3, DTS, etc.

    Doesn't sound like a DVD to me though. But that is what you asked, so ...

    If on the other hand you downloaded an avi, as said the audio is I think 2 channel AC3 and the video would be XviD.
