color issues

    I used DVD shrink to author and nero 6.3 to burn but my copy has a redish tint to it. faces etc... are very red. How can I eliminate this situation? Is this from compressing the image?

    Depends on the extent of your compression - have generally found compression above 65% quite acceptable over many hundreds of burns.

    Have found that DVD's played back on a computer through a program such as PowerDVD have deeper colouring/constrast compared to same movie being played through a standalone or TV.

    What type of Media are you using?

    My last compression ratio was about 70% and I used Ritek "ridata" from meritline (I've used memorex also but switched to Ritek after reading from this site)All have a reddish tint in stand alone but not on computer

    Hi there Stalag305, by the sound of things the problem could be the settings on your Television set or on the home DVD player set. Have you tried adjusting the television sets or your DVD player settings? Most probably to do with the tint settings.

    Have you tried the backed-up disks on your friends’ home DVD player?

    If however it isn’t that it could be to do with the television format, not set to the right format or tint, for example NTSC or PAL. Or indeed it could be that your home DVD player doesn’t support NTSC or PAL playback, depending on where you’re from. All NTSC signals can be adjusted with the tint setting, either on your TV set or on your DVD player’s setup menu.

    I’m not sure how DVD Shrink converts the compressed data (or if at all) from the original DVD source, or whether the compression retains the NTSC format or the PAL format, again depending on the original source coding. If it does, then it could be one of the above reasoning as to why you’re indeed getting the red tint.

    Try checking out your TV sets and DVD player settings or giving the backed-up disc a go on your mate’s DVD player.

    I will look into this but why would the original work just fine but the backup is reddish? Seems that the settings would be the same for both if its a "copy".

    situation resolved:
    my cat decided that my video cable jack was a chew toy I played a purchased movie and that too was reddish, bumped my cable and pic came in and out and then to red and back to good. Replaced cables and have had no problems. Thanks to all your help
