I have 2 AVI's I'm trying to join. The video is XviD. The audio is AC3 448kbps 48khz CBR in both files. However, according to both GSpot and AVIcodec, one file has 5 channels and the other has 6 channels. VirtualDubMod can't append them because they have different numbers of channels. What is the simplest way to get these two AVI's combined.
There's no 'simple way' I know. I only could suggest this: transfom the AVI which has 6 channels in an AVI which has 5+1 channels (or transform both AVIs into new AVIs with [bold]MP3 CBR[/bold] sound [but you'll lose the Dolby Surround audio, if you have surround speakers in your home DVD plant]) 1) Open, with VirtualDubMod, the AVI file which has the 6-ch audio stream; 2) Extract from that AVI the 6-channel AC3 stream (Stream___Stream List__Demux); 3) (this I cannot teach how to do) Convert the 6-channel AC3 stream into a 5+1 stream; 4) Replace the 6-ch with the 5+1-ch stream. Just do, in VierualDubMod: 4.a) Set Video___Direct Stream Copy (video must be kept the same) 4.b) Do Stream__Stream List. [bold] Disable[/bold] the old one, [bold]Add[/bold] the new one. 4.c) F7 [File__Save As...] If you make [bold]MP3 CBR[/bold] you have to click the 'Options >>' button twice, until you see a screen which leaves you to select Preset = Alt CBR, Mode = CBR, instead of the default MP3 ABR (better for compressing audio, but uses Average Bit Rate, a form of Variable Bit Rate, which causes un-sync in the AVI --> MPEG conversion; probably, if your player can directly read AVIs, this is not necessary). Sorry, but my DVD plant has no surround speakers and I never learned to make AC3 sound (I use MP2 sound streams, instead). I hope you can find an easy guide which can suggest you a smart audio application....
Thanks for your reply. I think I'll follow your advice about the mp3 as I don't need the surround sound anyway.
Ah, I just found that I wad describing an aplication and I didn't tell you which was it: use [bold]HeadAC3he[bold] [ http://mitglied.lycos.de/darkav/ ]. Sorry....
