Hi, i updated my cd writer on my laptop to a DVD writer about 6 months ago. The DVD writer is a HL-DT-ST DVD RW GMA-4040N and everything was fine. After about 2 months the movie playback began to slow down to say 15 frames and the sound was all echoy and mucked up, yet the drive would still install stuff and burn stuf too. SO i reinstalled the computer and the problem went away. But then after another two months the problem has come back and now it wont burn DVD's properly. Well it works with one specific DVD RW i have (a mitsubishi RW i bought for one pound years ago, but wont work with any others, i have yet to try sony discs)
So i downloaded a cracked codec for the drive but that did nothing, i dont really wont to reinstall the laptop again as i have no where to store my data as i cant burn DVD's! And i reckon the problem will just come back. Does anyone know anything that may help, as im stumped.
    Thanks for your time
