hey guys, i have C&C:G which is 2 cds. I burned them succesfully as images and when i goto install, the first cd installs fine and then it asks for the 2nd cd. So i put it in the cdrom but it still ask for the 2nd cd. Whats going on here?? Thanks, tANGEr
Command& Conquer Generals (CD 1) is Safedisc 2.8 cd protected. Use programs like Alcohol 120% or Blindwrite Suite to make working backups. Depending upon the brand name of your burner will determine if you need emulation (ATIP tool). Shoey
hey Shoey, ive never heard of Safedisc protected before. So i use Alcohol 120% to burn the cds? Do i still burn as images though? thanks!
Well get used to it if your backing up pc game protection on a regular basis. Use Alcohol 120% and chose Safedisc 2 datatype profile to burn (RAW DAO) at 8x. What is the file format of the 2 image files? (Iso, bin& cue).. Depending upon the name brand of your burner will determine if you need emulation to play your backup. Shoey
The two images are ISO's and my burner is a Matshita CW-7502. Will i need emulation to play backup?...whats emulation? thanks tANGEr
A) Yes Emulation means playing your backups with "additional measures"=software reliant. In short, you need the software to play your backups.Open Alcohol 120% and go to options>shell extension and enable iso file format. Use Alcohol 120% and chose Safedisc 2 datatype profile to burn (RAW DAO) at 8x. Now go to options>emulation and enable "ignore media type" and [bold] minimize Alcohol 120% to system tray (startup) and play the backup in your burner, NOT your dvd\cd-rom. Shoey
ok..i understand now. but the problem is i dont have a burner on this machine im using which is running C&C:G. My burner is on another computer. Is there a way around this?
To transfer the files just simply network the two computers together...really simple and several different ways to do it (listed in order of simplicity, of sorts): 1. Directly connect the NICs (network cards) on both machines with an RJ45-Crossover cable. Then, on one of the machines, create a share (ie., if you are gonna do it on the machine with the file then share the folder containing the share, if you are going to open up the machine with the burer, share an empty folder and copy to) 2. Get 2 RJ-45 (normal) cables and a router/hub/switch, create shared folders as in option 1 3. Unplug the burner from the other machine and install it in the machine with the files 4. Unplug the harddrive and install it in the machine with the burner
The external hard drive (if you have one) would be the much easier way to go... I agree it would be simpler but Im not sure if external drives are that cmmon hence i suggested networking
Ok, I do not have an external hard drive (unfortunatly) but my computers are networked. I just dont quite understand the "sharing" concept and the steps I have to take. Praetor, Shoey, could you please fill me in!! thanks alot guys tANGEr
Woohoo! I was right! Hehe Shared Folder: The WXP shared folder can be found by opening My Computer or Explorer. It will be at the top and typically be named yourComputerName's Shared Documents. This is the shared folder. If you dont see this, Control Panel --> Folder Options --> View Tab --> Make sure "Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended)" is checked. You may need to restart/logout for that to take effect. How to "share" a file: Copy the CnC Generals CD Images to the Shared Folder. Done. Accessing the Shared Folder: When using one of the computers, goto My Network Places and either right-away or with a little navigation you should be able to see the other computer. Double click on the other computer and you will be "in" the other computer's Shared Folder. The simplest way to do this is FROM the burner-computer and remotely access (i.e., using My Network Places) and consequently copying the CD Images TO the burner-computer.
Well you cant quite do that can you? ;-) Read what i said again: Computer A: Has the CD Images but no burner Computer B: Has a burner but not the images Solution 1: 1. Create a Share Folder in Computer A 2. Using Computer B, TAKE the files from Computer A Solution 2: 1. Create a Share Folder on Computer B 2. Using Computer A, GIVE the files to Computer B If you look carefully you will quickly realize that the end result is the same! I just abstracted it to "move the files from one computer to the other" -- how you do it doesnt matter much.
