Hi, i found my comp was a bit too slow and since i had harddrive probs i upgraded bought a new haddrive 120Gig maxtor, new memory 512Mb of ram,pc2100, i had 256 before, and plus a tv card,
But now i just find the computer keeps freezing, could it be the processor, cause i didn't change it? I have a P4 board but i am using a celeron processor, could that be the reason?

still freezes after loading windows onto new hd? try in safemode & into the bios to see if software or hardware issuses. check the can shape objects on your motherboard that are capacitors, they should be flat topped not domed. is the cpu heatsink fan assembly properly seated? is that assembly clean of dust & fan spinning right?

well i cleaned out the heat sink to make sure it wasn't that, put it back on made sure it is properly on there, now i don't believe it is the HD cause it froze a few time during bootup so i disconnected the hd, and it froze during the system check, u know where the comp checks to see what harddrives u have in master and slave and what not, and it is a ver y new board too, and all the caps don't look like they're leaking, or about to burst

Start by taking out ALL of the stuff you put in before it started freezing, then add one item at a time to see if you can isolate any faulty hardware.

Go to Maxtors site and download a program to check your HD,(maxblast4, i think!), just so you can definitely rule it out.

Also check the temp of your CPU you should be able to get it in your BIOS.

Try setting the PC up without your DVD/CD drive(s)and any other non essential stuff to see if there is any problem with your PSU.

Get a memory checker (google it) and stress test your memory and double check that all items are compatable and look into a possible upgrade of BIOS, (read about this first).

    Adh mor ort!

thanks for the advice there, i have already tried removing things one by one to try to isolate the problem it still freezes, i removed everything even the hard drive and it wouldn't go past the system check, but i will still check all the other things you said thanks, will keep you posted,
